    Default Scooter Project

Well it's getting colder and I decided to stop and tear down the scoot. There's a ton of things I have wanted to do to it, and a lot of things wrong with it. I bought this scooter for $100 and I did probably $200 worth of work to it to get it rideable. It was mistreated horrible by the original owner, and though it's a cheap Chinese scooter I like it. I see a lot of potential in it, and I could never justify spending thousands on a Ruckus. The only mods I have done so far are a better carb and Uni air filter, exhaust, and lowering it. My plans now are to clean up and paint the frame, remove the big lower kick stand, fix the kick start and delete the battery and starter, wire tuck through the frame, bmx stem and handlebars, and go lower all around. I have put around 1000 miles on it and love this thing. So I figure I would start this thread and keep progress on what I am doing to it. Leave a comment and let me know what you think, and suggestions are welcome for sure. Thanks!!!

Here is mock up on the BMX stem and bars.

And here are some of the tabs I plan to remove.

It's a 150cc GY6. Same engine that lots of guys swap to their Ruckus.

Well I got some of the tabs cut off today, and also cut off the huge kick stand bracket on the bottom.

Well had to stop and do a little mock up and see exactly what I want to do here. I have seen where if you slam the front all the way the forks hit the glove box, and you'll have to cut it out. Looks like that's the case here!

Here is an idea of the stretch. It's not extreme or anything, only like 4" or 5". I will have to make new motor mounts and move the shocks to the rear of the frame. I also will be moving the gas tank up in front of the engine out of the way. I am moving the license plate down to the left side of the rear tire.

Heres a little update on the progress. I got the new license plate bracket made, got some mountain bike handlebars for it, cut the motor mounts to relocate them, and have made a lot of decisions on how I want it to look. I decided to put mostly all of the body panels back. I was going to leave it a naked frame like a ruckus, but it's not a ruckus! I will be ordering a lot of parts next week and here's the way it's looking now.

    New tag location.

Flipped the carb around so much more room now for activities!

Cut and flipped the motor mounts to relocate them.

My Password JDM bmx stem shim kit.

More shaving and grinding on the frame

The new stance with all the body panels back on, and the drag bars.

    Here's another update...

I got my GPS mount and hardwire kit in. The GPS will be my speedo.

I got the motor mounts cut off and getting ready for the stretch.

I also got my new blinkers in. They will be mounted on the sides of the front end.

Well finally got the motor mounts welded back on. And made a huge parts order with lots of goodies coming in this week. Already got some of it. Check it out.

The motor mounts welded back to the frame.

Here's a mock up of the new rear shock mount location. I am running a rigid rear setup.

And my new NCY ball bearing throttle and grips.

And I went back way later and posted pics of the chopper build finished. Figured you might have been talking about it too.

Little project I am working on right now.

Well here is an update. I got in my big order of parts, and finally got it back to a rolling chassis again.

New tires, these are more of a street tire instead of the knobby tires it has.

Here is the new handlebar setup, with the new levers, grips, throttle, and gps mount in place.

New gasket set and cvt belt for the engine.

And here it is finally rolling again. Got the rear shock mounts welded in today. Ignore the seat, I am getting the foam redone and get it recovered.

Here's a little update on the scooter. I got the motor torn down and cleaned up with new gaskets and seals. It will be getting fresh paint as soon as the weather permits. Also got the new tires mounted, and cut the back of the cvt cover out so you can see the bell housing spinning.

Well here's another update. I have recently got a lot done and a lot figured out. I have almost completely finished the wire tuck, and I got a lot of stuff painted today. I also have a new seat, handlebars, and turn signal switch ordered. I'll post pics of them when they come in next week. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Here is the throttle cable after running it through the frame, and hooked to the new ball bearing twist throttle.

The new turn signals mounted on.

Here is some pics I shot real quick while I was doing wiring.

Here's the starter solenoid on the new mount I made.

Here's the pieces I painted today.

Here's the engine after bolting everything back on. Pretty happy with the turn out.

I know it's been a while but here is a pretty big update. I have actually put around 100 miles on it, and everything works really well. Here's just some quick shots of it so you see how it looks so far. I still have a lot of little things left to do, like the kick stand, finish up the wiring, and put the head tube cap on. And I still can't decide if I should put the lower panels on under the floor board. But it's got the new seat on it, the new turn signal switch, the new renthal handlebars, a set of HID headlights, and much more. I have a bunch of stuff ordered, NCY coil pack, extended rear brake cable, some carbon fiber rear flares, and a mikuni fuel pump. I'll post up pics of that stuff next week. Let me know what you think so far. Thanks guys!
