    Cool Turbo FIT

    Hey all,

I'm currently beginning my turbo build for my anemic 1.5 L Honda fit Sport.
I'm only 17 years old as of about two weeks ago. I am hoping to study Mechanical/Automotive Engineering at Georgia Tech next year. I am coincidentally obsessed with modding cars and I really wanted to be boosted, so I decided to go all out on this idea. I decided to build the kit myself instead of buying one, that way I can actually learn about each piece's function, why it is important, etc. Also, I'll be getting more hands on experience this way. I've done headers, exhausts, intakes, radios, tail lights, rims modding before (I know very well that the skill level required to do those things is low) so i'm hoping to learn some skills here haha. I love feedback, and constructive criticism, but don't be rude, PLEASE! If you don't like it....just ignore this thread. Feel free comment if you have an idea of how to do something differently in maybe a more cost-effective manner, though :P

    Required Parts:
    > T25 turbo, oil/vacuum lines, HKS Bov, Wastegate, Gauges, injectors
    > Turbo Manifold
    > Air filter
    > Front- Mount Intercooler
    > Bunged oil pan
    > Test pipe/cat delete
    > Intercooler Piping
    > 1 step Colder Spark Plugs
    > Downpipe
    > 2nd O2 Sensor Bung
    > UEGO
    > Boost/Vacuum gauge
    > AEM FIC + Boomslang Harness

    Goals:
    > Reliable OEM power-boost
    > appx/ at least 160 hp

    Collected Parts/Progress

    >10/24/12 I bought a turbo kit that was used for a honda civic ex coupe. Turbo wasn't used very much. I got the whole kit for $430!!!! Woohoo!

Custom Downpipe (civic) and Intercooler pipes (civic) + oil line fittings

    Garrett T25 Turbo

    Wastegate:

    Greddy Turbo Manifold (civic)

    INP-009 450cc injectors ( Too big, FOR SALE: http://www.importatlanta.com/forums/...l#post39462355 )

    Cheap Temperature guage

    HKS BOV ( )

Venom Fuel rail ( Probably can sell..)

ECU (Confused...don't think this of any benefit to me in any way..sell it?)

    My plans/questions:

    > Cut exhaust gasket/flange off turbo manifold and re-weld with Honda L15a gasket/flange
    > Clock turbo
    > Cut downpipe into segments, use flange. Attempt to recycle as many parts as possible.
    > Figure out if I can use the ECU..I doubt it/don't want to, so I'll probably end up selling that and the Venom fuel rail if I can't use it.

    More to come soon!

That's a big project. My advice is simple - have 2 times what you think it will cost in hand before you start working on the car.

Amen to that. Budgets are imaginary in this hobby. Good luck though and keep us updated.

Agreed haha! Okay, cool, thanks for the advice! I'm really excited to be starting this build, despite its scale

I totally understand that. A lot of people I have talked to, actually almost everyone who has come across this build, always advises to plan for unexpected expenses. I have definitely taken that into consideration and am not underestimating the potential cost of this build now. Thanks, and I will!

    Nice looking Project.

Just to give you additional insight into F/I Costs, it takes roughtly $12k to boost the Z. That's using a CHEAP kit.

Of course the Honda will be a bit cheaper, especially if you dont buy a kit.

Thanks! I really appreciate all the feedback i'm getting here on IA. Fitfreak.net is so mundane compared to this forum! I love this place haha.

Oh my lord hahaha that's so expensive. I'm pretty sure a k-swap is realistically possible for the same budget, if not less. Nonetheless, a turbo z would most likely woop a k-honda.

I had the same dilemma, yeah looks hard/expensive to find a exhaust mani for a fit. Sounds like the most involved part of your plans, but probably would be worth it to DIY. People will hate, of course it won't flow as well as a "real" one. At the end of the day, you got a solution to the problem for like 50 bux vs 500+. A while back, it was hard finding cheap t3 manifolds for G54B motors, so I found a ka24de t3 manifold (ebay) and the runners seemed to match up. We used 2 flanges: 1 for the 240, the other for the starion and just made a "conversion adapter" with runners in between them. I'll try to find pics

I'd just save up and go to an exhaust shop for this- but if you're DIYing go for it

Can't use it, your car uses some crazy hi-tech stuff they didn't have back then. That looks to be a possibly chipped obd1 computer with an obd2 conversion harness. You can probably sell that ECU/harness together for ~100 bux if you can confirm it's chipped.

I'll be honest. I like these cars when they are simply done. I wouldn't consider a turbo on this car. But good luck, man, you may need it.

Nice project. I pieced together a turbo kit for my CRX a few years ago and really enjoyed the outcome. My cost was around $1600-$2000 after it was tuned and was vary happy with the HP #s.

Just take your time and do it right and you will be happy with it. Good luck.

on the flip side, surely you can find a cheap honda shell with a d-series in good condition.
If that's the case you literally have everything you need for boost. Just bolt that stuff on and keep the fit as a reliable Daily, and build out your shell.. You can probably make ~200whp safely with the setup you posted up on a d-series

Sorry to thread-jack, but once you get to GT, you should check out Wreck Racing. We'd love to have you.

We are a budget racing team run by students ("RandomGuy" and I are both members). Our current comp car is a turbo 2JZ MG Midget:

Anyway, sounds like you have a cool project on your hands! Good luck

Ecu and conversion harness will be of no use to you, sell it for around 250-300$, I believe you can use hondata flashpro for tuning, or get a piggyback like aem fic etc.

This is good advice. Leave the Fit alone and as it should be and junk up a beater car.

Thanks for all the response everyone, I love it.

I like the beater idea, I will definitely have to consider that, although one of the main reasons I want to boost this car specifically is simply for its unique qualities. Also, it doesn't hurt to pull a few mustangs and watch them stare in disbelief that they lost to a Honda fit ;P I actually debated having a friend of mine, whose dad owns a used car lot, get me a deal on a cheap del sol to just boost and modify like mad haha. That idea comes with some conflicts though because that's appx another $2000 for a car, which also leaves me with two cars as a teenager haha. Anyways, it's a thought i'm considering...

As some of you know, i'm just a kid, so keep that in mind haha (i'm not a uninformed mindless kid though). With that being said, I finally got a job so this build is officially going to be making some good progress within the next few weeks, so i'll keep you all updated!

A little progress day by day.

Again thanks to RandomGuy, quickdodge, EmminoDaGreat, and Mad Mike for your suggestions and advice. I love getting response to this. I will definitely keep everyone up-to-date and direct any questions I have to you all! Thanks everyone

    Connor

Will do. Maybe sell injectors + ECU + fuel rail for 350 on here. Thanks for the heads up. Looking into AEM FIC vs Emanage Ultimate

It's always nice to see projects like this, best of luck. Also, I definitely second those suggestions to join WreckRacing at tech, I was a member at one point.. Tech is the perfect environment for your interest and if you're proactive enough as a student, you can end up with a sick gig for a big automaker.
