Yeah, that was first thing to do when I had the car painted...smooth and paint over the chip guard. It really makes the car look much better/lower/balanced.

SO. I haven't updated this thread in a while because I've been busy with a new job and stuff... but here we go.

    I picked up a BP4W from a 99 10AE with a 6 speed (woooohooooo).

I picked up an old Grant 500 steering wheel that a friend's father has had since the mid 70's and reupholstered my door panels until I can save up to get some others.

and I got a 10ae tower brace as well

That's all. Sorry for the terrible pics.

It would be such an easy swap for you. You'd just have to find one for sale.

It is all original right now. 1.8. I haven't done the swap yet.

So, I have not updated in a long time. Heeerre goes. (As always, sorry for the bad phone pics.

The first thing that comes to mind is this.

Most of the damage was on the trunk with 3 other dents on the quarter panels. That led to this:

Before that happened I did a little interior work and came up with this.

And this weekend I will be installing:

    A Manual Steering Rack:

Some 195-50s in place of the current 205-50s

    ANDDDDDD

The BP4W/6 Speed I bought a while back! This is an old pic, but I don't have any new ones.

Sorry I don't have any pics of the entire car. I don't have a real camera and my girlfriend is being selfish with hers lately.

But, I will try to get an actual pic of it after the swap and all. Maybe my GV lip will come in soon and I can pop some pics of it installed.

    PS:

Oh yeah... while prepping the trunk for primer I found some bondo... HAGGGGGGGGGGGGGAGAGAHAHAGHGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ..

    Therefore:

Since the appearance of my car has gone down hill recently I've been looking for some new inspiration. And this is it.

The car is mis-matched and pieced together but it looks like it has a soul. The beauty of it is in its story (and those Equips). It shouldn't look as good as it does, but it's beautiful to me. That's just why it's a little inspiration to me and my piece.

In the guy's yard. I got a big discount on the combo because he didn't have the stuff to pull it with. So, I loaded up the trailer and pulled it in his yard, haha.

I have minimum coverage so my car insurance wouldn't cover it. However, my girlfriend's parents' home owners insurance would have covered it but they didn't want to turn it in because they thought it would make the price of their insurance go up... even though it wouldn't. And, I didn't want to try to force them to, so I said 'fuck it, I'll fix it.'

It was only in 3 spots, the reason I had to strip it was because they didn't use enough hardener. The filler was still soft.

The gray is just the primer. You can see some of the bondo in the pic. Its white.

That last inspirtation picture is beautiful. I've been looking for a muffler like that too, lol. Still a "can" but has the long tip so you can hide the "can" look.

    Alright...

In went the bp4w and the 6 speed. :-)

Took her for a test drive.

Put on my new tires, manual rack, GV lip, and got an alignment...

Then traded my hardtop. For this.

Thanks, but I think those pics are for another thread completely.

I love the extra power. I doubt its much more torque, the real difference is in how smooth the engine is. Its great.

I like the gearing. Its not too short like I thought it would be... And there is lots of pull. Its nice.

And the other Guy just wanted an OEM hardtop. He was tired of screwing with this one I guess. I really want to get a Fastback top for my car.... Maybe I can use this as a good bargaining chip.

Guy's named Ben, not who the Stones were referring to in that chune they sung, turns out. (whoooowhooo)

This one is pretty leaky, even as aftermarket tops go. But the latches on the front were crap and the rear plates have yet to be drilled. There are a couple spots where the lexan window leaks and the window seals are new... but for a soft-top. However, I think I can get the leaky cauldron sealed to match how pretty it looks. I've got new latches and getting the rear secure should be easy.

I'm just super paranoid about sun damage now.

    Will do.

Power steering is too jerky and unstable. I've never felt that way about any other car except this one... So I swapped it. I really love it too.

[IMG]And then in went the M1HCHT Single diagonal thanks to Dustin for selling and Eric for handling the Group Buy.

The rear deck was thoroughly cleaned and the carpet went in.
I still have to swap in a good rain rail and thoroughly re-clean my second hand softie.

Just waiting for the trim pieces!

Well, the BP/6spd is a good start to motivate you to go the extra distance. I see stuff all the time that doesn't fit the bandwagon, but since it doesn't, it gets looked over. There are a lot of wheel options out there now that are nice...Rota K7 or Grid-V, Konig Roller, TRM C3M, 6UL to name a few that are low-budget. I know it's hard to get off the beaten path and that it's a fine line between doing it right and being called rice...but a good place to look for ideas are track/time attack cars and the "carview/carlife" thread on ClubRoadster.

As for your hardtop, you might want to look into the 1-piece hardtop seals for the windows and ditch the softop window seals.

An example of a NA that is done right...coupeloop's car on CR...

It's funny that you mention the Grid Vs. I have been trying to source a set. The Xxrs have gotta go. Not because they're common or cheap, ( I don't even know anyone with a set) but because there is so much to be gained by replacing them. But, they will stay for a little while at least.

    I'm now thinking these instead.

I don't know how great they would look with a 195/50 on a 15x8 0et at my height. I don't want to have tons of camber to make them fit either.

    Just a thought.

The new top is complete sex, but the leaks would get so annoying. G' job on the motor/tranny, this car is really coming along well. , but i'm not a fan of the RB bumper, a nice lip and splitter will take car of the "cute" look just as well

The pics of the white track spec miata got me a lil hard
