Default so ill probably end up goin to you guys...

well as you all know, especially mike cuz he has seen a few of my threads with questions and what not, and he has helped out tremendously. What i am making this thread for is for a little more help with yalls input and advice on what i should do.

As some know, im pretty sure mike can remember. I am going to swapping a new engine into my car hopefully around the end of the summer time this year, i hope. Thats what i am aiming for when it comes to financial savings and what not. well what i am getting at is, what is a good estimated goal for me to obtain when it comes to horsepower. Reason i ask this is because i have the desire to boost the new engine when i get it. But i dont know really all what is good to do for it. Now this car/engine will be daily driven so i am not looking for any crazy power as i dont want it to be constantly breaking on me. what should i do?? is it good to boost it being a daily driver or should i go N/a?

i know im always asking questions and what not, but my knowledge is not that really great when it comes to engines, especially boosting on. Please help and give me some advice!

i hope this thread made sense.

As soon as you boost you are severely lowering your reliability.... N/A as long as its not like 12-13:1 compression will over all be more reliable. But boost is very fun

    Just my two cents.

boost lowers reliability..but reliability is increased with the tune. while it is 'said' to boost safely at 15lbs(some people say) i would say, as this car is your daily driver, dont boost anymore than 10lbs IMO. just make sure you get a tune. TUNE IS WHERE ITS AT.

It sounds like you are on a strict budget, thats good alot of us are.

    Ill have to ask:
    1) Why are you swapping the engine out in the first place? Whats the mileage on your current engine?

    2) What is a REALISTIC MONETARY BUDGET? Be honest, alot of my recomendations depend on what the customer can afford. Im all about the most horsepower per dollar. People with $1000 to do modifications get different answers than people with $3000, etc. Let me know so i can tell you what parts I would buy. If you dont want it public PM me.

    3) Boost can be just as reliable as NA if done right.

Turbo cars cost more to do, but they make vastly more power.

    1) The mileage on my car just within the past few weeks hit 190k and probably will be hitting 191k within the next week or so. im swapping it because my engine i an older engine, the previous owner of my car used this car for traveling and what have you. i bought it at 156k and have put about a little under 40k on it since i bought it back in 2005. i am swapping it because i want a newer engine that i can have in good condition and shape for the next few years as i still plan on keeping this car for a good while. also, from what i have been told before, my valve seals are apparently goin bad, either that or they need an adjust ment. while i could fix these problems and what not and make it just as strong as a new engine probably i would rather start with a new one with a little bit more base power.

    2) my budget is rather low, but not that low. If i am planning on swapping i am wanting to atleast put 2500 to 3k down on a swap. maybe more depending on what were talkin about doing and if im up for it. this is all new to me, so i really really dont know alot about what to do.

    3) Whether i go NA or boost is really going to depend on my budget after swapping and or with swapping. tihs is why im talking to you to figure this out.

    i hope this helps man.

I get very busy at the shop so sometimes it takes me a few days to get back on IA.

190K isnt bad, but i understand wanting to swap it out while you can. If the engine runs well you can also sell it after you are done swapping.

I assume you have an LS motor. Well you have a few options.

GSR will be the most costly, and you wont be able to do a full swap. The motorset alone runs $3000. YOu could do just a longblock swap (meaning GSR engine and reuse your trans) but then you would have VTEC with a long geared LS tranny. GSR longbocks run $1500-1700

You could do a B20 with mods. B20 longblocks run around $800-850 and you could do an intake manifold, header, possibly cams. you wouldnt make a ton of hp but the TQ would be nice. OPtion to go B20VTEC later on down the road. You could also buy like an ITR Transmission to go with the B20 so youd have a nice trans and engine setup.

    3) Whether i go NA or boost is really going to depend on my budget after swapping and or with swapping. tihs is why im talking to you to figure this out.
WIth $2500-3000 you cant swap AND boost, not the right way IMO.

well i definetly want to go GSR, i dont want to take an easy way out. im up for spending 3k on a motor and tranny that doesnt bother me at all. i have seen a few places online where i can get a full swap for 3k, says it includes transmission. thats something i can do. i was actually assuming that was what i was goin to have to pay. im definetly going to need a clutch as well. my clutch is goin bad
