    Default Short Shifter?

Thinking about installing a short shifter and poly stabilizers. Just wanted to know about other peoples experiences with them. Good idea or bad idea?

well IMO, stock shifters are best all around. But then again I have a short shifter and I gotta admit, does feel a little better (shorter throw, stiffer). Just really depends on if you wanna spend that $40-150 for one just for the hell of it. Break down, B&M short shifters are about $30-50 bucks new, available in dual bend or counter weight. DC sports are mostly around $65+, skunk2 (got one of these, very nice indeed) are around $100+. Or you can always go ebay for about $10 shipped (broke 2 of these already, even still got my dc sports <<broke that one too, but I guess it depends on if you power shift or not).

A very good friends advice led me to the skunk2 shifter and knob combo. I just got it in the mail, and will probably install it within a couple days. I'll let ya'll know what I think.

After a couple days of using my short shifter, I have mixed feelings for the time being. I like the crisp precise feel and shorter throw. But it is much harder to ingage than it use to be. It's so hard, I feel like it actually lengthened th amount of time it takes me to shift. According to reviews I've read people say it softens over time, or you get used to it. I think i'm gonna add power and rpm's to compensate for it.

Short throw shifters will damage your syncros if you shift fast. I will never run one again, i had a skunk2 shifter break at the ball and leave me stranded.

Haha, make sure you do it properly.

My uncle has a Saab 9-5 Aero and he tried to install a short-throw kit. It didn't sit right or something, and now you actually have to NAIL the shifter to the left to get to first or second gear. It has too much play too...so it's pretty messy and you won't be certain of what gear you're in.

Don't short-shifters add effort in the process too?

Back from a while, and yeah, they're harder to engage the gears.

no dont just cut it down.. pull it out and cut the ball joint and move it up to your desired hight.. the higher the ball the shorter the shift! Its saves money... if you can weld...

Just cut the shifter and re-thread. Done.
