    Default Good Project Car

I plan on once i finishing paying off this loan for my last car(to get my credit up) i plan on getting a project car. But i cant figure out which would be a good one to go with. So far i am considering a 96 honda coupe, 92-95 talon awd tsi, either an S13 or S14, or maybe a 96-98 eclipse gsx, but cant figure out which is the best to go with. Whats peoples opinion, i plan on doing just motor work. all will be rebuilt motors with turbos something to make it a sleeper looking! jsut need opinions! i cant figure which would make the best turbo sleeper!

I would say some sort of Honda. If you want something different, look into Volkswagens with the VR6 engine.

For the money (inexpensive) a s13 is hard to beat performance wise, you can throw a ca18det or sr20det for not alot and with a decent turbo upgrade throw out 300whp easy. plus the cars handle very well..

that being said i love my honda. theres somethin about my old ass 91 EF civic hatcback that i cant get away from. This poor car has had several motors in it, hit a deer, been thrown through the mountains for years and still puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it.

Definitely not a front wheel drive fan although Honda projects can be done dirt cheap in anybody's back yard. I like the idea of s13 or s14.

240's are not sleepers any more, lol

If you want to do an SR and stay sleeper then do it in a truck or a se-r or g20.

Given the se-r and g20 are both fwd, it meets the sleeper standard.

    good luck

Even more of a reason not to get a 240 with responses like that.

well right now i am looking at finding either a 3000GT VR4 since you RARELY see those, and doing some motor work to it. Or a Eagle Talon Tsi AWD.

I just want something thats fast, dont really care for how common they are, i just want something thats fun to drive.

"Even more of a reason not to get a 240 with responses like that." If you did not know s13/14 are originally built for grip which makes them good for street or drag + FR is so much fun to drive.

If you want Talon tsi awd there is one for sale at AR Motorsports, they are asking about 4.500$. The car has 170,000 miles.

I bought a car from them and it was a good experience and a great car. (94 Cobra)

But really if you want a car that is going to be a play toy that you just drive for fun get something with a big engine. I know that sounds stupid but people forget the more displacement you have the easier it is to go fast.

If you were on a budget of 10,000 or so I would do this.

    Start out with a 96-98 4.6 Rustang
-get on one of the trillions of mustang forums, I recommend turbomustangs.com, and get a cobra crank and some forged rods and pistons. You can probably get them used at an awesome deal.
-Get a built auto for really cheap that will hold all the power you could ever want or a t 56 or something similiar like a tremec.
    -New axles and lsd

You then have the basis for a serious horsepower platform

Add something like a diesel turbo because the motor will spool it (4600cc's), flip the headers, and weld a few pipes.

If you can't make a measly 650++ whp with that then you don't need to be working on cars. The same goes for LT1 Camaros. Even more displacement. I used to be really into these cars, but for what I do imports are better. And Like I said its all about what you want to do. If you wanted a DD I woulda said Honda. So I'm not biased.

^^^^LOL fuck that it i wanted to go with Domestic fun car(which i already have and am in the process of) with 10k to drop intoa motor i would just get a old 5.0 drop a 351 in it, turn it to a 381 stroker and go fast as fuck all motor! But i am looking for an import, that way i have a fun import and a nice domestic(best of both worlds) hell i might down the road decide to get a cheap honda for DD so that i can do the shit out of my 4.6 mod motor!!

Well it sounds like you already know what you want. My suggestion is to stay away from a vr4. I like them too, they are awesome cars, but the reality is that they are very expensive and very expensive to maintain. They are also really heavy. If you want all wheel drive go with something like an old impreza with a wrx or sti swap. Personally I would much rather have that than a DSM. I mean a impreza (2500ish lbs) and 300 or so whp from an sti power plant aint no joke. My friend has an 02 WRX with just an sti bottom end. Its amazing how quick it is.

Something like this would be really cool. Not to mention you wouldn't have a problem selling the engine, and you get that awesome suby sound.

I just looked around at some vr4's. I found a really clean 92. it was only 14,500. haha

oh i agree that the old body styles are nice with the swpa but i am not a big fan of the old body styles. Shit if i was to do i would jsut buy an 04/05 STI as a DD and a project car. But i am also considering maybe a 95 honda coupe do a turbo swap in it....its common but they are fun when they are turboed. But still an STI is still a very good chance!

On one hand you say that you don't care what it looks like as long as its fast. Then you say you like the old suby body style but you don't like older cars.

I gave you the idea of building a mustang that will be as fast or faster than a lot of supras, but thats not how YOU would do it.

You threw out the idea of several awd turbo cars and so did I. But thats not what you want.

Like I said it seems to me that you already know what you want. And you never told us what you wanted to do with the car.

No i dont now what i want. See if you think about it everythings bene done so nothing is uncommon. Things just have a variance of how often you see them. Like SR/RB/2jZ swap S13/14 are pretty common...not the 2jz side but there coming around. Then you have the hondas everyone and their mother has done everything you can to them. Subys old and new are being done. I dont like the older looks of the subys well becuase i jsut dont like the body style. I still want it to look good...just something that looks good to me stock. The old subys look ugly as hell any way you look at them. VR4s you dont hear much about the same with teh old talons. They each look good stock, and have great potential. Now iwth the old model mustangs...i have the year i like of them...this was the best body style ever for the mustangs...ands its only about tax returns and 3 months away from being where i want it short of a SC. So why build up ANOTHER muscle car. i would rather haev a guick/fast domestic, and then have a quick/fast import. So really i am just considering what would be the most fun to do. I will most likely just find a S14 and do it with a SR20. But i am jsut weighing my options of what i want to do what is less common then some, and more common than others.

Well I've always kinda wanted to do the sr20 in a 200sx. 350whp would be fun. This is just some of the random stuff that I can think of and have heard about or is actually feasible.

    FC with a 13b or ls1
Miata with a sbf of ls1
    240 with a bb or ls1
    crx with a k24
    any honda with a k24
    Lexus sc/gs 300
    TT lexus sc400
    Mr2 with a 3vzfe v6 (200 na hp)
    turbo z32
    ...

    65 mustang with a rb26 .....

Cavalier with a monster truck engine....

Anything can be done with enough time and money. BUT WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO USE THE CAR FOR!!!!!!
