Default thoughts and opinions on KMS head porting and headwork

looking for thoughts on KMS head porting vs. some of the "nationally" known porters (Portflow, CCC, RLZ, etc.)

advantage of KMS is they are local, but i haven't heard any personal testimony on their work quality, and the gains from their work.

i'm looking for proven gains and flowbench proven work.

engine will be a mild track engine with higher comp and fairly aggressive cams...

    thanks.

Not sure about the actual head work. I used the KMS valve train, on my Built R last year.. The valves floated.. ( I believe ) im not 100% but I have a good feeling thats what happend.

To this day i still cant believe people will use KMS. Just search Kaufman on Honda-tech or on here or on google.

HIS products are just rebadged Supertech stuff so its ok, the actual work hes done, i havent see 1 part come from there getting done exactly what he said would get done, and more times than not hes ripped people off.

headwork id send it to a trusted company.

The problem, as is with most performance shops (sorry guys)... is that even if the guy who owns or runs the place knows what he's doing, most of the time he will not be the one doing your work.

John Kauffman built me a motor personally many years ago... it was a beast for what it was and it lasted long enough given the circumstances. It's just a shame I was too inexperienced to know how badly it needed to be tuned. Shortly afterwards, a buddy had KMS do some work and it was not good... it had gone from a 1 man shop to a few and look what happened...

If I were in your shoes I would go with one of the more well known ports like you mentioned. can't argue with proven results and flow tested cnc ports.

Yeah i should say that ive heard John is a very smart and knowledgeable guy, but hes gotten lazy and doesnt do the work himself, usually gets behind, and just ends up taking peoples money without finishing the job up to standards.

i have had about 10 people i know personally get "ripped" off from KMS everything from head porting to motor building. Ive SEEN b20vtec motors put together with the pistons in backwards, thrush washers installed backwards , among other things. Ive seen motors he "built" grenade from rod knock in 20 miles or less on the dyno. ive had countless other people complain how bad he was including well known people like Tom from A+H Specialists aka the legend.

I know KMS used to do Mahdavis machine work and they turned out some super fast cars so.........................

I just think he is lazy, prob doesnt do the best job anymore. So id stick to someone else

I tried to get a cam seal/plug from them. They are literally 5 minutes from my house. AND it's ran out of a home. I called and said "i'll be there in 10 minutes, is that okay?" They said sure. I was there in 5. The gate was closed, so I called and called, nobody would pick up the phone. I wouldn't use them again.

i've heard more bad scenarios than good from there. i've had friends that had built ls/vtec engines that the sleeves sank in the block. I know of a person to work there for 3 weeks and they were tasked to start porting/polishing heads with no previous knowledge as to what and how much material to take out. And know of a couple ppl who just had some work done not too long ago. I think they were satisfied.
Either way, for what it is worth, some ppl just have to find out the truth their way. The next person might get the results they were looking for in the beginning. but i know for sure , that there has been alot of unhappy customers that has left from there.
