All good stories start somewhere and mine started like this. I was browsing the forums one day and came across an ad for a $2500 k24. 12.5:1 Compression, rods the whole assembled bottom end and decied I wanted to upgrade from my setup at the time of just bolt ons cams and a tune. This was the beginning of the sickness, no symptoms yet but the fever would soon show.

I began planning out what I would need to do to complete the swap and had small reasonable goals at the time. I wanted to just put my cammed head on a high compression 2.4 block and enjoy the added tq and hopefully break 250whp.
Then I started thinking...hmm...my Toda header would be far from ideal for a 2.4 and prolly won't fit well so I really ought to get a custom header that would suit my build. After trying to get in touch with another popular custom header maker with no success I contacted ASP and placed my order.

Doing some research I knew that since I wanted my horsepower to peak at 8100 a 4-1 header was the way I wanted to go along with that I got a reverse cone/megaphone with a turn down so I could unbolt my exhaust at the track. Turn around time was awesome I had my header in a little over 2 weeks even with me calling for a turn down attachment at the last minute. Thank you Stefan!

Now I was begging to feel a little feversih. I had a 2.4 high compression block on the way with a proper header for it and I was going to use Toda cams? I began to question if that would really give me what I wanted and since I now had a proper header why wouldn't I get proper cams...so I purchased a set of IPS KME cams to really give me the synergy I had from my basic 2 liter build. Now surely my 250whp goal can grow to 260.

The fever grew... but I have a fat pig of a car...this is an RSX not an EG and while 260 will be fun and I am sure I will love the tq I need every bit I can get cause I mean 700lbs well it's a lot. So I decided that a ported head would be sweet for my build it's going to make me hold onto tq longer and perhaps if everything goes well I could reach 270...remove a little weight and thats 10:1 power to weight. Surely this is a great idea so I ordered it.

Wait! Now I've messed up. The KMEs are meant to go with a stock head, 99mm stroke and I just ordered a ported head so now I am beginning the spiral and ordered parts that are making my “upgraded” parts obsolete. Quite a sickness this obession has become. I changed my order and sent back my just received KMEs to get a set of K10s.
Full on fever has set in and I am delerious. I contacted Endyn and sent them a brand new RBC to be ported for a K24, I ordered a set of Mugen MF10s, a Skunk2 70mm tb to go along with my ported RBC, a carbon fiber hood, a deka battery, hytech oil pan baffle and since I found out I had a base model injen cold air intake I replaced it with a type S version. I had my ASP header ceramic coated too.

A bit of time had passed and I still didn't have my block but as my luck would have it I got offered a deal to upgrade the K24 to an ERL sleeved 89x99 K25 for little more than the cost of a set of rods and bolts. Obviously I took the offer. The extra bore from the 89mm will go nicely with my new K10s.

Now since I had been waiting on parts to show up for such a long period of time the shop that is primarily a regular service shop had gotten busy and since my project wasn't really what they do it got back burnered a bit but the main tech and the shop owner have been good to me for years and have become friends so they worked through it with me and eventually it got done.

Dyno day came and it was raining so I was really bummed out about that and concerned I would be dissapointed with my numbers. Apprehensively I watched as the car came to life and the power began to climb. Eventually resulting into 290/204. While It wasn't the 300 number I hoped might happen I was still pleased and the car sounded sick.

lol good thread love the detailed pictures, and i guess its now all out there. The interesting part for me is this:

    Build Specs-

Thats a very simple engine and i mean that in terms of it looks like you have a lot of NICE parts, but nothing proprietary or "top secret". Custom header, but a header anyone can order. Relatively off the shelf camshafts, a stock intake manifold with a port, off the shelf TB, stock crank, etc.

Its always nice to see big numbers out of a setup that really is user friendly. In a world where we see tons of people slapping parts and motors together "magazine building" you have shown what it takes to make arguably the highest WHP ALL MOTOR in Atlanta with a good, clean, simple, build. Its not about the BIGGEST cams, or the craziest port job, or the highest compression or the biggest stroke or bore you can run etc. Sometimes the power is in the details, and the details assembled together properly

Congrats because not only did you plan out a good build, you executed it. Which many people have failed at.

    Good job

Thanks Mike! Really that was the goal with this motor...to plan it out well and put together parts that would work together well all the while using readily availible parts ending up with a repeatable build. I am happy to lay out a map that other can follow and surely use to come up with better results. I got lucky that on my first build everything worked out so well but now I know one way to do it. I have a sickness for Ks so hopefully I'll continue to learn and discover more and more.

Ultimately though I can't take credit for it myself. I had lots of help from people like Nikos, Chunky, and Moselely. Like the saying goes sometimes it's not what you know it's who you know

first build? wow, lol you got to be happy!

and you didnt, you thanked everyone, but what some people dont realize is that there is no shame in having help from people that may know more than you or give you advice or push you in a certain direction you may be unsure of. It doesnt always work ya know. i can tell you hundreds of builds people SHOULD have made awesome power but never did. People sometimes lose sight of that. knowledge is key, execution is key, understanding is just as important as "building".

Quite a sickness cars can become. Thanks I was trying to lay it out in a manner that wasn't too overwhelming but showed a reasonable amout of detail.

I didnt have near the power that this motor has when the motor in my dads hatch was in my accord but man it was alot of fun. I think it made close to 230 with ac and power steering but pulled hard on the street .

I remember a friend of mine with a 5.0 mustange called me and asked when i was going to let him get some of the accord. I repleid when ever you want to were you at lol. We were two minutes from each other on the same rd so no backing out lol. He said go ahead ill come around you so i eased off till i seen him ghet into it them i laid in it and pulled a couple car lenghts man that felt good.

It feels good to out run a v8 with a civic but it even feels better with a heavy ass accord or rsx .

My problem is i wouldnt get rid of the 19s and i would break a axle or jack shaft everytime i dropped the clutch . It just made more since to put the motor in my dads car since we were playing with it at the track especialy when i had to leave at 8,000 rpms in the accord just to run a 13.9 lmao but hey i did what it took.

Im sure ill change twenty more things before i finish my new build to matt so i know how it is . Veru nice set up and great numbers dyno looks sick.

IMO this setup is not in the right car to run close to discomonkey.

It wouldn't even be close he would be AT LEAST a second faster than me at the track. I don't know of any full body all motor DC5s running mid 11s. Not that it couldn't happen I just haven't seen them.

yeah youd have to seriously put it on a diet. a BIG ONE.

It is an awesome setup, and makes stupid power, but he will always be handicapped by the chassis.

you know the easiest way to run faster at the track? Lose weight. when a 1800lb CRX with 220whp is running mid 11s, its hard for a 2500lb RSX to come close, even with 70whp more.

Lmao I wish my car weighed 2500lbs. Taking 350 lbs out would be ridiculous.

I dont understand this statement not trying to be an ass just realy dont understand. Im sure i make close to 20 more hp then disco monkey and im no were near as fast on the street or track as he is . His car is set up for the class he runs and he has had years to do it . he has went as far as to strip every wire out that car that he doesnt need but has left what it takes to still run the street class. Its just a realy nice set up car but just because somebody makes alot of hp doesnt mean they should run disco monkey with a 3,000 pound car . Im sure the rsx would run some 12s but it would have a hard time doing that and this is why . I went through it with my accord on the street when its already roling it was a beast but trying to get that tank off the line was another story . if you got the power to get something that heavy off the line then you start breaking shit. I broke the center out of a steal fly wheel not a aluminum one and shoot the rest through my tranny .

Lets say the disco makes 230hp well i made that in the accord and had to leave the line at 8,000 just to run a 13.9 were disco is running 11.6 . there is that much difference just in weight . I loved my accord like im sure matt does his rsx and i had tones of money in it the best of the best shit . But when i kept breaking stuff and seen that even though i was making a tone of power i could barely run 13s i was like screw it . I figured id hit a high 12 and if i would have id been happy but no were near it. My dad had a stock f20b in the hatch running 13.5 when the built motor was in my accord and on the street we both cars run identical couldnt pull from each other but at the track half a second difference weight is a bitch .

Mosely he has that car light real light and if bobby can make 220 im sure disco is over 230 lmao . He was running open header so he trailered it to the last event but what has always impressed me is he used to drive the car to each event from americas i think and put his slicks on run high 11s and drive home kinda like you did thats what like dependable .

I would love to see matts setup in a hatch but if he is anything like me the 290hp is old news already and if he builds a hatch it will be even sicker then 290h lol.
