Default Most reliable car that could be had for <$1000?

I'm currently looking for a beater/daily for summer, and the key right now is reliable and cheap. I know some of you know which motors specifically are the most reliable and stuff like that, so does anyone have any input or experience with cheap cars that are also really dependable? So far I've been hearing my best bets are an S-10 or an Escort.

Look for a cb7 Accord, they're usually a lot cheaper than civics and extremely reliable. Maybe an old Camry?

Look for a low mileage domestic car. You can find Buicks under 50K miles for under $1K if you look around for a little while.
