What type of tires do you use?
I have noticed nobody ever says anything about the type of tires they use on here, its always about the wheels. I am very interested to see what people like the most.

I've never had tires that stuck like glue. But the ones that do probably don't last long anyway.
Are Sumitomos any good? I saw'em on Tirerack and the price is right.

Sumitomo sucks for performance tires, in my opinion. They just can't compete with leaders like Bridgestone or Michelin for performance. If you want a touring tire, perhaps. Performance- no.
For my experiences, I will limit it to this same car and the most recent three tires I chose.

This is what I am running now. When they are warmed up, the grip and overall performance is top shelf. Excellent wet and dry traction. The tread pattern is wicked and looks very aggressive. The major downside to these tires is the fact that they are like blocks of ice before they warm up. Noisy and uncomfortable when you first start rolling.

Terrible performance tires. They were reasonably quiet, but the grip was nonexistent. Handled wet weather decently, but the dry traction was monumentally disappointing. If you want something to last a long time, and could care less about grip, this might be your tire. I was entirely underwhelmed with the performance of the tire, and I only allowed them to stay on the car for 3 months before I could no longer put up with the sub-par performance of them.

These tires are pretty good all the way around. Dry grip is acceptable and predictable. Wet weather traction is above average. Tires are exceptionally noisy, but they ride smoothly despite it all.

What model Sumitomo were you on? Because I've read great reviews so far on the HTR Z III.

I haven't actually had Sumitomo on any of my personal vehicles. I have installed them on several vehicles and received mixed reviews. The good reviews come from the passenger/touring type vehicles, and the generally negative reviews come primarily from people with sports cars. The general downfall was that they are just not sticky and are fairly squirmy even after being warmed up.
My impression is that Sumi tires are a good cost option, but they leave you wanting in the performance department. For that reason, I would rather save up a little more money and just spend for the more capable tire than get a tire that I know isn't a great performer. Of course, this also depends on what your priorities are for tires. I value performance and grip over comfort and long life.

Didn't think about Treadware, thanks guys! The Yokohama ADVAN S.4. was a great tire, but not the best for street use. It is one of those tires that likes to be pushed to get it working just right. Had like a wet/slippery feel at first until you got them with quick cornering and warmed up on straights.

I have heard good things about those Falkens. Might try them when my fiance needs new tires.
Yeah they were rated up to 170 MPH, wore pretty quickly, but man they were sticky. Not too pricey either for such a performance oriented summer tire. About $120 a piece, and performed in the rain (at least when new) like it was dry.

I prefer Bridgestone and Michelin on the street, but usually run Maxxis because I get them cheap, and they give a lot of bang-for-the-buck.
For track use, it really depends on use, weight and power of the car, etc.

Ive worked with tires for way too long. In my experiences BFGoodrich makes one crappy tire. When we were putting them on certified used TLs back in 2005 customers returned daily wanting to return the tires due to noise issues. Believe it or not most of them were happier with Mastercraft Avengers. Tires are tires in my opinion as far as grip. A street tire is just gonna perform like a street tire reguardless of design/brand. Some wear quicker, some make more noise, some are harder to keep balanced, but outside of an R-compound tire you're gonna see more of a difference between sizes than brands. I ran a set of Capitol 245/45/17s a little while abck on a stock suspension ranger, and they rode like a dream, were cheap, and had good wear. I do like Kuhmo and Falken for a good all around street tire though. They boith make a quality product for the price. I currently have discount tire specials, the Falken Sincera?, on both of my personal cars, and they ride GREAT, and both ended up being cheap as crap. I HIGHLY recommend using discount tire for tire needs as ive had GREAT experiences both times ive used them buying full sets of tires with outstanding warranties.

gotta say ..these tires are great, they handle and perform great at high speeds..they have a nice aggressive profile..super sticky, handle superb in the rain also..i definatly reccomend these..theyre not the softess and smoothes tire..but all weather performance wise..i lovem
