Default What kinda power or even if it ould be a good idea..lmk

I was jw i recently tore my motor down after running a vortec charger with plans of gettin tuned asap and didnt have the time or cash..come to find out i broke the ring lands on #1 and #3 so im plan on goin for an all motor build for now while i build another...heres what i have go back in it..lmk if it would seem to be an ok build or make decent power..i was jw if anyyone thought the compression ratio would be to high and if the pistons would clear the head..lmk what you think and any suggestions

    -1.7 gsr head
-ls a1 block w arp head studs
-ctr pistons w/ls rods and arp rod bolts
    -blox dual valve springs
    -blox stage 3 cams
    -skunk 2 cam gears
    -new lma
    -converted to obd1
    -chipped p28

Assuming an 89mm crank, that combo should be 11.9CR.

the dome on the CTR's are just massive. in some builds it too massive, your valves will be making love to the pistons

if it's gonna be a fun car i'd turbo it. supercharged feels like n/a, yes it's boosted but it's not the same feeling as being in a turbo car..

n/a is just a lot of noise and not going anywhere...

sell the supercharger go turbo ftw

    just my .02

    Don't listen to this guy.

He doesn't know a thing about cars, or turbo's, or anything.

I think the power difference of having CTR pistons over P30 or ITR would not be worth the sacrifice of having to run 100 plus octane. Actually with your combo I would say there prob. wouldn't be much of a power difference anyways.

haha... yea maybe a jackson...but have u ever driven one w a vortec??...ya makes power equal to that of a turbo and sounds alot better and its a whole lot more reliable....same thing i thought...

You can run CTRs I dont think 1.7L gsr heads have the same size combustion chamber as the 1.8L.But im not exactly sure I have seen 3 ls/v built with CTRs and they ran fine on pump gas,its all in the tuning if you really wanna be safe then sorry.

CTR PISTONS ARE TOO HEAVY. For the love of God, compression is not the only thing in the bottom end that contributes to horsepower. Look at all of the highest HP "oem" builds. They all use P30 pistons. Also, all that extra weight of those massive domes is not gonna be good with those weak ass LS rods. Dont turn it over about 7000-7500
