If it's the base lancer (non EVO), I am not going off of any facts here(ton's of fact's later, but just for this next statement), but considering they're like $13k or $15 cars, I'm willing to bet their Auto transmissions with paddles aren't really manu-matic. It's just going to be a standard auto, with little ECU shift overrides. (real facts start here)The good shit that's in Volkswagens Porsches, the GTR, and supercars is a dual clutch semi-auto manu-matic, that actually lets you select gears, with engaging and disengaging clutches, rather than the standard clutch pack driven usual auto. The usual slushbox boring economy automatic transmission either uses a throttle position sensor, or a cable on the throttle to tell the car's ECU to shift an automatic, when you slam your foot down, it normally trigger's a "kickdown" into a lower gear to help you accelrate, this is sluggish, and part of the reasons automatics suck. When you put a cheap econobox car's auto transmission into "manual" mode, all you're doing is moving the kickdown and upshift triggers from the TPS, to some paddles, and most likely, if you drive normally, the car will STILL shift for you even if you don't touch the paddles, I knew a VW bug that would autoshift in manual mode, but just give you more time between shifts to let you shift it yourself. The system is really half-assed way to tell the buyer they're getting a "sporty manual tranny with their automatic gearbox". Now I could be wrong and Mitsubishi could have put the good tranny from the EVO into all models, but I doubt they'd put a REAL sequential paddle gearbox into a sub $25k car.

    Long story short, manual FTW.

^^ Yeah, I drew a frame of a man running on each fan blade. That is him running at idle

if i had a choice i would get the 5-speed manuel instead of the CVT, because it is not the same system used in the EVO model which i the TC-SST(twin clutch-sportronic shift transmission), so the CVT is like any other automaitc with teh tap shifting on the shifter this one is just on paddles behidn the steering wheel, now if it came with the TC-SST tranny i would choice that all day long.

Ok, just looked into it more. constantly variable is pretty cool technology, in a bad application. I'd avoid it, I read up on some trannys failing at 30k miles.

Yeah thats definitly no good... yeah i dont need it failing on me right off the bat! I just figured it might be a good idea with the girlfriend possibly driveing it from time to time to save the clutch! but i guess i'll just have to teach the girl how to drive on a rental!
