    Default B20/Vtec plans

    Ok...having a little trouble figuring out what I want to do..Boost,or B20/Vtec.I have a JDM b16 A in
my 2000 Civic si.I am just wanting to get around 190-200 whp with a B20 bottom end. What all do I have to
purchase to make this possible, besides the bottom end of course.I wanna have that ideal whp, plus have it
be a reliable daily driver. What internals would I have to get to be safe, and have decent amount of power??
Just thought it over, and I want to do all motor on THIS car. Will probably go boost on my other car..

All depends on how you put it together, if you just throw it together it wont last to long, but if you take your time with it could last for yrs

im a turbo guy so i say boost it. but i will say that i had a n/a ls vtec a few years back that was built and it was alot of fun and felt way different than a boosted set up it was way more responsive and gave me the oh damn feeling when i layed into the throttle i would say it was bruatal off the line and kinda hard to hook up but nothing like the power i get from turbos but still fun hahahaha

and if your lookin for 200whp on the b20 if you go boost you will go far past that goal i made 200 with my dohc zc and 7 or 8 psi it was a while back. boost it boost it!!!!hahaha

Hmm....I dunno, maybe I'm just retarded, but I kinda like how an all motor car sounds..A tad bit louder than a boosted one.But I dunno, when money is right,I will have to think long and hard about what to do..

I say Dare is kinda on the right track - but I'd abandon the OEM pistons and go after-market there.

^^ Sounds to me like you're easily swayed and don't really know what you want.

NA is always going to cost more in terms of HP/$. You could do a simple turbo kit on the B16 and make 200whp on LOW boost and have a fun car. But the weak link on the B16 is the pistons, they don like much more than 250ishwhp

B20VTEC is cool, itll be fun, but you have a HEAVY chassis. EM1s are NOT LIGHT and im sorry for a car to be FUN and only have 200whp NA , it has to be in like a EG Hatch, CRX or EK Hatch. SIs are heavy with the power windows, ac, PS, etc etc etc.

200whp B20vtec will be about 70whp over a STOCK B16, which is A LOT but its still a 14 second car at best.

IMO If you are really wanting to stay NA, i would sell your B16 longblock for like $800-900, pick up a ITR longblock ( i happen to have one for sale) and a header. Make 190-195 and its OEM reliable.

B20 VTEC, you are going to have a lot more on your plate. Youll need to do Pistons (Aftermarket or RS Machines), ITR cams at the minimum, ARP rod bolts if you stick with stock rods (to be able to really rev it with no problems), then you got the LSVTEC conversion, its a lot more labor intensive.

something to think about. Best thing would be to tell us your REALISTIC BUDGET

piece a kit together, if you wanna go turbo.the cost really should not make the decision for you as long as your not in a rush take your time wait for deals to come along. if you wanna go all motor and thats what you like then do it. like i said i had a blast with my old ls/vtec.

^^ Honestly the cost is what a LOT of people have to consider these days. At the end of the day the speed limit is posted on a stick beside the road - so the "cost to get to the speed limit" is definitely something to consider for most people. Stop by Mainstream and sit down w/ Charles and the crew and come w/ a plan.

Most builds that are only in your head end up costing a shit-ton even if it's simple... writing it down and LOOKING at your choices is what the serious builders do and things make a whole lot more sense on paper and keeps costs down b/c you can visualize what you're getting into istead of running off of memory in your head.

Yea I went through the same shit but when someone gave it to me on paper and I priced everything came out to about 1k$.And I went from there to obtain parts.Machine shop to Autozone to IA, Once you know what you wanna do and its in front of you everything you need. You just take your time and get the money for the stuff and buy.But dont have crazy plans like all motor ls that makes 220whp then you will waste your time.Even though I've seen it But it takes alot of money to do stuff like that and your budget might not alow it.But just figure out what you wanna do and write it down.Weigh your options like price and hp goal.
