i still haven't figured out the y80 s80 thing, i always get soo confused...it's the one thing on Honda's that doesn't make any sense to me. It's easy to tell if it's an LSD tranny, even if it doesn't have the stamp just look to see if it's an open dif or not but I think the only real way to tell from there is to measure the final drive.

the ls/rs/gs/se & gs-r/sir-g both use the s80 transmission but sometimes the GS-R/SIR-G uses the y80 and one source shows the ls/rs/gs/se uses it too....??? All my b-series charts say differant things but VTECKIDD probably knows something i don't...

The only way to tell is to pop the case and count the teeth on the ring gear or the 5th gear.

I believe S80 is a gsr tranny and Y80 is a LS tranny but they both confuse the hell out of me, why can't it be like back in the days with cable tranny when the gsr tranny was YS1, then came J1, S1, etc.

I have an s80 ls tranny, trust me, the only way to tell is to pop the case, or look at the vin. Ive rebuilt enough to know.

well you can't really check the vin sometimes due to the jdm trannys don't have vins nor do OBD1. I think it was like '96 or '98 when they started the vin on the tranny. Not sure though...
