Infiniti staged an early unveiling of its 2011 M luxury sedan at the 59th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Friday evening. The redesigned model is expected to go on sale in spring 2010 in two flavors: the six-cylinder M37, and the eight-cylinder M56. This third-generation M will be the first to be sold across all of Infiniti’s 32 markets around the world, including Western Europe.
Although final specs have not been disclosed, the M56 is expected to offer more than 400 horsepower. Meanwhile, the M37 will likely have a similar horsepower figure to the G37, which delivers 330 horsepower. Despite improved performance from the new engine lineup, fuel consumption will be reduced, Infiniti says.
The exterior has a new look with a low front end and deeply sculpted fenders inspired by the Infiniti Essence concept car. The interior is highlighted by better materials, an advanced climate control system, and superior audio.
The car features a number of new technologies, including a system designed to help alert the driver if another vehicle is detected in an adjacent lane during an intended lane change. In such an instance, the car will reportedly ‘help’ steer itself back into the original lane of travel.
No further details of the M have been announced, but we’ll keep you posted as new information emerges.
