Default ::TPS Issues and failure symptoms::

To make a long story short, I had a TPS CEL for a while (more than 4 months) in my d15b7 with no real issues. I took my car to a shop and had the turbo kit installed, and on the way home the car was "bucking" or cutting in and out of power while I was in partial throttle. If I stepped on it a bit, the power would snap back on cue with turbo spool.... . I did not beat on the car. Never went past 5k on the rpm's. I was merely trying to make it home.

30 minutes later... I have a whole in my block.... or two...

DO YOU SEE THAT!!! No more than, stopping at the QT on Jimmy Carter, filling up on 93, and then blowing up after I past Pleasant Hill on 85. TPS???

Now, here is my new engine. Compliments to Josh (Tech5)

I would hate to see my new motor end up like my last one, so I'm asking if the TPS could have been the culprit, or am I on the wrong trail? Also, Blox has an aftermarket TPS that I can buy on Ebay. has any one ran this before? If so, any issues?

Seriously, why the hell would you drive the car around bucking and running like crap with a TPS code for months?

Did the shop install the turbo kit and not fix the TPS issues? That's crazy.

... You FAIL at reading. I said the car had a code when it was all motor, but ran FINE. Not until the turbo kit was on did the car start acting sporadic. And to be clear, it was a friend of mines shop, and he intalled everything perfectly, I just didn't have another TPS. He said that it should have blown up for that reason. I asked Scotty, and he said the same thing.

So they installed the turbo kit and didn't fix the code? Did you get it tuned or what engine management was this on?

X2 what engine management do you have?

I have to say the tune may have contributed to the hole in the block. TPS is important, but it is only part of the pic. An overly lean condition will cause bucking, hesitation and other issues as well as engine damage. Def get that TPS fixed for sure before riding out with it again.

The only time I drove the car boosted, was back from the shop 2 my house. I was running a chipped P28 from Scotty, and I called him first after it blew and assured me that it had 2 be the TPS... I was going to get the car dyno tuned at Mainstream, but I couldn't even make it home.

go figure, the engineers at honda design a CEL for a faulty sensor and it actually means something. NO WAY!

So if your oil pressure light comes on, and it runs fine, are you going to keep going? then when your motor locks up are you going to make a thread about "HEY MY OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY MOTOR LOCKED UP, BUT IT RAN FINE BEFORE, COULD THAT BE THE PROBLEM>?"

Usually if a CEL comes on, there is a problem that needs to be fixed

Thanks for all your help, but your sarcasm is really becoming counterproductive at this point. I understand im a ricer for trying to get my car home with a CEL... shame on me. I NEVER put any blame on Scotty or my friends shop. All I wanted to know was if there could possibly be any more contruibuting factors. I'm no master mechanic, or some Honda genius, I have a thorough but general understanding about my car, and I just wanted some positive input.

I'm definantly a boost noob, but I've done an asss of research, so cut me a phuckin break. "Fix your TPS before you boost it again"... I got it. I'm not trying to be a douchebag, so chill out. I just want to get my car running and tuned before school starts.

    WORD

you seem to have the worst luck, but you bring it on yourself.

Fix the TPS issue, and if the car WASNT TUNED, and you had a TPS issue, thats why it blew the fuck up

From the looks of your block it detonated pretty bad, and most likely that motor was on its way out anyway. That just doesnt happen from putting around town.

FYI a D15B7s redline is around 6800, so you doing "ONLY 5000 RPMS" is deep in its powerband. So next time either fix the issue or dont drive it

Your question has been answered 100 times. How the hell is it a good idea to run a NA-T motor without a THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR? Think about that. Who cares that it ran fine before you TURBOCHARGED it?

Dude, your car had a TPS CEL for MONTHS. YOu never fixed the problem. Then you put a TURBO on it, and it blew up while you were hitting 5000rpms and the turbo was "boostin"

So this "i drove home with a cel and im a ricer shame on me" is bullshit.

There is no other contributing factor unless your motor was on its way out anyway, but even then a TPS CEL needs to be fixed regardless or motor condition.

Your sarcasm and the little smilies you were using kinda hinted that you were trying to place blame on someone else IMO

Ok. My fault Vteckidd... didn't mean to disrespect you.

Well, I'm just gunna replace the TPS, and go from there. But just for future reference, don't be so condecending. It's been a tough summer for me, and all I want to do is finish my car. Actually, I think this was your old car before. But anyway, the motor had 200k on it, so it was passed its prime; tommorow is a new day/engine.

I may not do everything the right way, but I'm tryin, soooo. yea. . Oh yea, since I'm an un-employed nihilistic threat, I had 2 much free time... this is what I get for trying to do everything myself. ... you win some and you lose some. I've got the motor out without the help of any of my fellow IA friends...

Not being condescending, just giving you some tough "love" lol

If you are going to do something like this, make sure you do it right, otherwise, you end up in the predicament you are in.

The TPS problem, 200K+ engine, turbo, all spells disaster.

    Good luck on this motor

Haha. The law has been laid down after I stepped out.

As far as the TPS, have you confirmed your old one is bad? I have not used the blox TPS so I can't help there, but the TPS in itself is a simple circuit so hopefully they can't screw it up too bad.
