So what are the rules,if any, on Buying a car that is already modded and calling it your own????

Can we just poke funny at these people all day or is changing wheels etc. count as making it your own????

Let me know what you guys are thinkin or how you feel about it.....

you know i use to laugh at people for buying already modded cars and acting like they knew what it took to build it and how hard it was...

BUT now i don't really care.. some people don't have the time to actually do a build.. and if you find a car you like and buy it... go for it...

BUT don't take credit for the build/mods if you didn't do it...

i bought a hatch with a swap/lowered few other things and i always let people know i bought it that way.. and then showed them or told them the things i did to it....

If you didn't build yourself with your own sweat and tears you can't talk shit about someone else's car. You still get railed if your daddy bought it for you.

I bought my car already lowered and with wheels on it. I do not take credit for those things, but I have done everything else to it myself. The wheels were curbrashed when I bought it so those are getting replaced sometime too. So, the only thing that will be left that I can't take credit for is the lowering. Personally, I am glad the previous owner took care of that for me.

imo, 9 out of 10 Civics/Integras look the same now a days with the exception of color and wheels. *I am talking looks only not performance* so who cares if you did the lowering and bolted some wheels on the car or not? Or who cares if your hatch came with the duckbill and lip already, Everyone else has it already so wtf does it matter?

agreed.. unless you're doing something completely original.. it doesn't matter much...

buying a car with visual mods that you were wanting to do or going to do anyway... no shame in that.. just means you've gotta do less work...

I'm with Killer on this one. There's nothing wrong with buying a car that's already been modded, just don't take credit for them yourself. Make your own changes so that it's yours, but just give credit where it's due.

the thrill of building will always be greater than that of a purchase, but there is nothing wrong with buying somthing that has been modded. there is always somthing that can be improved on no matter what has been done to the car before you got it..IMO ...

Unless you change what was already done to it in the first place when you bought it.

I think I don't give a shit what other people think. If I want a fully built car I would get it. If I like the wheels I would keep them or if I did not like them I would get new ones.

    Yea i feel ya.

i have had my fair share of bought not built cars. It just seems like no matter what you change on the car someone will alway revert back to "you bought it like that".

I can totally respect someone for rockin someone elses work as long as they give credit where credit is due.

Depends, if someone is looking for a DD with a few mods and finds the car they want with the stuff already done, what's wrong with that?

Buying a completely finished built car to me is ok but like said taking credit for it is lame. However I wouldn't, it just doesn't feel like MY car.

Buying a completely finished race car is smart though.

I personally have been a fan of adding stuff on my own, that way I know what's done to it exactly, how it was installed, etc. I don't even take my cars to a shop, that to me is the same thing as buying a car with mods done.

It doesn't matter either way....Someone who has enough time and concern to give someone shit for buying a modded car needs more of a life.

I don't really care if some1 bought a car decked out. As long as when they are describing it, they don't start every sentence with: "I did this..."

I've owned...5 vehicles, all stock when I got them and modded the shit out of each. So I, as a enthusiast don't like when people claim they did work they know nothing about.

Well for a DD, I would build, but I don't hate on this who buy built. If thats what they want, then great for them.

As for a track car, it really depends. To build a good track car cost a good chunk of change. Cars like, miatas, BMW's, civic, STi/evo's, are easy to come buy with badass setups (AKA championship winning cars). Why would someone spend all the extra time and money to build a car that they are going to but the exact same mods on? But some cars, you don't really have a choice (like my next car )

ive bought 2 cars that were modded, one was simple mods, the other was a built motor /boosted etc. And the shit just dont feel right, anybody that works on their own vehicle knows the hassle and feeling it is to work after someone else is a pain. even if its good quality work, its still a hassle to figure out what they were thinking, or what they were trying to do.

But other than that, i dont think its a bad thing completly..but its not something i would do again unless its a must have. But to me its seems like no fun, unless the car has room for improvement, or needs to be repaired. id never buy a modded honda...its like being married to a prostitute..lol

buying cars that are already built is smart.
they are usually cheaper then doing it yourself and it saves you a shitload of time.
just make sure you don't take credit for it.

Obviously I am better at doing something and making the cheese if I can afford a bad ass car modded at a top notch shop. Whatever floats your boat. I drive for me - fuck everyone else!

That said, I do have an extra special respect for those who restore cars and take the time to build something unique. That doesn't mean my store bought 650hp monster is any less of a machine though.

It seems a lot of people have misunderstood the OP. He didn't ask if it was ok to buy an already modded car.

He's talking about people that buy an already modded car and tell people that they built it. Later, QD.
