    Default Tow hooks...

    I have to ask:

Is there ANY useful benefit to putting a tow hook on the rear of an FWD? Later, QD.

maybe when they try to take a corner too fast and the car goes straight in the ditch, they can use the tow hook in the rear to get them out of the ditch..or revene

Yes, there is, you can pull a FWD car backwards out of a tire wall, onto a trailer, out of a ditch, etc etc. Lots of fwd cars come from the factory with rear tow hooks...what kind of question is this???????????????????????? LOL

I didn't even think about it that way. But I can imagine that well over 90% of the cars on here with tow hooks on the rear end of the car don't have them on there in case they plow into a tire wall, lolol. Or onto a trailer. Later, QD.

On back there is no purpose and actually anywhere on the car is kinda lame.

I do have one on the front of my car. If it ever had to get towed they hopefully wont hook it anywhere else and bend something
Got a MINI? Don't talk to me.

I will tell you what i use it For "When i am warming up my tires or slicks , my e-brake is still not strong enough to hold the car in one place as if it's a RWD, so instead of 2 people holding it from the side i have a rope w/ 6 knots with a hook attached on to the tow hook and about 6 ppl can hold my car back and it helps ALOT! I can fully warm up my tires/slicks but to have it on there for show is gay, especially if your drunk or just forget that its there and say bye bye to your shin

Maybe because it makes no sense? You don't use the e-brake to power brake a RWD...

x2, jack point Every car should have a factory rear tow hook. You can't always get to the front of the vehicle to pull it out, or onto a truck. Mine had to be pulled on the tow truck from the rear b/c the way i was pulled off the road when my axle broke. Not sure why you would need an aftermarket one though

Jay Kay! JDM whores are gay!

EDIT: you can actually see my 2 front towhooks in my sig

You do realize that this thread is about tow hooks on FWD cars, and your car is a RWD, right?

    I did a conversion....

not really, I was just making fun of JDM-crazy people, didn't really care how it pertained to the thread.

I was talking about factory towhooks anyway. this thread is about aftermarket.

Tow hooks have absolutely nothing to do with being front or rear wheel drive.

Oh, believe me, I am aware of that, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to give him a hard time when the thread started off specifically about FWD.

see... I was actually thinking about this... When i was trying to decide whether to pursue a autocross fitting build or a road race fitting build i had some people from both sides of the fence tell me a tow hook might be a good idea to a heavily modified car.

It has nothing to do with what YOU want on your car, it's up to the rules & regulations of the events sanctioning body.

If the car is intake deep in kitty litter you can't possibly get under it to snag a control arm or stock tow hook to pull it out so marked and easily obtainable tow hook or straps are required to efficiently get the workers and car off the track as quickly as possible. Aftermarket tow hooks and straps are rarely, if ever, used for "towing" or as tie -downs anyways. If it can roll safely then they are used to pull the car to its destination and if it's inoperative it can be pulled by it to a safe location and properly hauled on a rollback or using an under-lift...
