Default so....the END of the S2000......

So....WHO is gonna miss the S2000!?

Found this yesteray on Yahoo....someone posted up something about the entire list in Whoreslounge but for most if us....I think the S2K will be most missed....

personally i think its market is mostly 50-60 year old men....as they seem to be mostly who i see driving them, lol....but we cant discount the fact that its a stout car off the assembly line.

    Below from the Yahoo article....
    Honda S2000

Honda engineers make some of the world's most practical, dependable family cars -- cars that don't excel at any one thing but do nearly everything fairly well, and never, ever die.

    Honda S2000

It must drive them insane. If you've perfected the craft of timing valves and perfectly mating an engine to a transmission, then just once in your career you must want to build an asphalt-rippling track machine that isn't practical at all.

For the automaker's 50th anniversary, they did just that. The result was the S2000: two seats, a six-speed manual gearbox and the soul of a cheetah. It's a track-day car that barely costs more than an Accord. It's pure. It's just a roadster, distilled to its essence. But according to sources inside Honda, for the S2000, the road ends in 2009.

It will be back when the economy picks up. You don't just drop a Z4 and Boxster fighter forever. By 2015, there will be a replacement.

its a great car but too freakin small, the reason i went with the Z roadster instead. I agree with EJ it will be back ina few years. Its the same reason toyota doesnt have a sports car and the reason GM is droppin the sky.

Let me adjust that. I know the Miata's success gave Honda enough incentive to make the S2000 but in terms of true origins.....

Without the Lotus Elan, there wouldn't be a Miata

    Without a Honda S600, there wouldn't be an S2000

yea i agree, that there were great roadsters before the miata like the elan and midget and such...but the miata brought back the small roadster and made it mainstream and popular.im pretty sure its the #1 selling sportscar in the world...also it gives a raw driving experice from the factory, like im pretty sure u can still it get the new ones with no A/C or P/S from the factory.

and its one the funnest cars for under $20k new

I can't fit in an s2k comfortably so I could care less. They

Nothing. Cars cost money to make.

You'll miss the s2000 if you like over priced roadsters with shitty interior, acceleration, comfort, and gas mileage... But it handles great and it has Vtec....

You mean 1886. BTW, Daimler & Maybach had done the same thing a little up the road from Karl Benz at the exact same time.

Honda reportedly kills S2000 replacement, V8 program, RWD Acuras
Honda's attempt to right-size its development schedule and cope with the economic downturn apparently extends beyond the cancellation of the next NSX. According to Autocar, HoMoCo is right-sizing its plans for the next two years, and that includes rethinking the development of a range of rear-wheel-drive Acuras, a new V8, a convertible based on the CR-Z and the S2000's successor.

Acura seems to be carrying the weight of the bad news, with its RWD 7-series rival, originally due out in 2015, cancelled indefinitely, along with development of a V8 engine that would allow the brand to compete with the best and brightest from Germany. The Euro-market Legend could also be on the block and there's a chance that Honda will stop developing two separate Accord models for sale in the U.S. and abroad, instead opting for one mid-size sedan to be sold worldwide.

Unfortunately, the development cease-fire also extends to Honda's smaller offerings. Honda planned to release a drop-top version of its CR-Z after the hybrid goes on sale next year, but that model has been nixed. Even more disturbingly, 2009 will be the last year of production for the S2000, with no heir apparent waiting in the wings.

We're hoping to get more details on the cut-backs as the week progresses, but needless to say, there's more than enough disappointment to go around.
