    lol yeah...

Original Poster put ENGINE OIL in theTRANSMISSION.

that is why your transmission is fucked. you are going to need to rebuild/replace the whole thing.

you might not have to take it as far as replacing or rebuilding.... just drop the tranny and get some degresser and wash the tranny down reall good, put it back in and use the right stuff.....

Run some water through the tranny to flush it out...

Just kidding...seriously, though, drain the 80/90 out...refill with Syncromesh ($9 bucks a quart), row through the gears for about 15 mins or and do it one more time.

Lucas is not meant for manual trannys btw...80w90 is meant for rear ends/transfer cases. I've never seen a manual use 80/90.

And yes, you are supposed to use motor oil (5w20 if I'm not mistaken for Hondas) if you do not have the correct manufacturer specified -MANUAL- transmission fluid. It stated in the manual...Honda, do not use any additive in their gear lube, specifying regular motor oil until recently, and now their own brand of gear lube which seems to be an enhanced version of motor oil.

Do this...with the car off obviously, see if it will go into reverse. With the clutch down, start, see if the shifter forces itself out of reverse. I don't think Hondas have a reverse switch so it should start in reverse with the clutch down. If the shifter doesn't budge, simply see if will pull itself (or push) without any additional throttle. If the shifter forces itself out...you need a new tranny.

I know the thread date is old...but I want to clarify that motor oil is the correct fluid for a Honda transmission and my other manual trannys out there.

You're an idiot. Honda manual transmission's can use anything from 5w20 to 10w40. Do not put gear oil or higher weight transmission fluid in a B series tranny.

Damn thats dumb, Who replies to a thread and doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about?

As for going into reverse, try putting the shift lever into 4th gear first (do not release the clutch), then go into reverse. My GSR, civic, prelude, and CL type S 6 speed all did the same thing from time to time. I haven't had a honda that didn't do that.

lol alright i'll admit. Since i've never been into Hondas i was not aware. but thats weird. any reason why you have to run such a thick oil? what makes the honda transmissions so special?
