the best driving cars thread....

I like how the OP posted no actual dollar amount he wanted to spend; good way to accomplish finding the right car :goodjob:

As far us cars under $5k:
-2g eclipse/talon FWD, very fun car, pretty easy to work on, loads of potential, cheap.
-SN95 mustang (cobra or GT), LOTS of fun to drive, loads of potential, etc.
-92-95 civic hatchback, cheap, easy to work on, very go-kart feeling... need I say more?
-BMW E30, another go kart like car, surprisingly not hard/expensive to work on.

I've had one of every car I mentioned, so it's first hand experience... I wouldn't recommend a car I've never had.

Okay from my experiance Id say these cars..

1. E30. They are fun and very easy to do anything with in all reality.
2. E30 M3. They are king. End of story.
3. 3rd gen Nissan Maxima. That was the funnest car ive ever drove. Its got a lot of power for a four door "sports" car. lol.

e30 M3 info for that 5th gen max guy or anyone else.

I think that you have perfect grounds to like rwd and awd over fwd but i would suggest to you to go out and experience more cars to see why im making this point.

The thing about the spinning tires. Rwd cars typically have much more power and light up the rear fairly easily and most fwd cars. With the right suspension and tires will not light up at all. An lsd will help that greatly. I'll also add that most modern cars are built to cancel out as much torque steer as possible.

I have had all three. So i feel like i can make this point.

1. A rwd V6
2. A fwd I4
3. A awd B4 turbo.

I'll admit I'm mostly comparing my Eclipse GST to my Mustang GT. They had about the same HP, Mustang obviously more torque but I didn't have near as much a problem with spinning the tires as I did on my Eclipse. Pretty much if I floored it in first gear the tires would spin a lot of the time, I didn't have that problem with the Mustang.

Probably my limited experience, but I like being able to spin the tires when I want rather than every time I floor it lol. Plus, having the back end come out on you is fun... having the front tires spin is not :no:



But I do have limited experience and haven't driven a lot of the fwd cars you're recommending as great overall cars, they very well could change my mind... but I love the feeling of a controlled powerslide more than anything lol

consider getting a 2006 or UP VW GTI 1.8T or 2.0T. They're a 6sp though. One of the best bang for you buck.

He can say the same thing about your car and be right. I actually consider the 3 gen Camaro my favorite body style after the first gens; obviously.

Mazda Protege5, Mazda3

If you want a fun, nimble and quick car that is a blast to drive.

Look for a 1989-1991 325is. You can get a super clean one for 5K or less and mod the hell out of it. Motor swap or turbo or whatever. You will be hard pressed to find a car like it for less... If you spend more you very way may not even have a better car...

And a Maxima is the funnest car you have driven? I will loan you a car to make you change your mind lol.

In 1997, Car and Driver named the Prelude SH best handling car under $30,000. I bring it up cause I'm biased on it.

The 5th generation Prelude SH had Active Torque Transfer System [updated versions can be found in newer Acuras]. Only European models had the option of 4ws.
