The whole entire argument between what is better, imports or domestics is stupid. Maybe 10-20 years ago, there would have been a clear and cut line, but FACE IT people, times have changed. Automotive tech, tuning, and advancements have come leaps and bounds above what it used to be.
You can take a turd box of a Honda and toss thousands of dollars at it, and it will become a nice/quick car. But face it, no matter how much you polish a turd, its still a turd. Not meaning to offend with that last comment, but this whole argument comes down to what cars handle well out of the box. In my opinion I think there are more imports that can rip domestics apart in most forms of motorsports, OUT OF THE BOX, however any car can be made to handle well/rip a quick 1320/ or tear up a lap record with enough money. But what I just said is my opinion. Ive owned imports and domestics, and I like both, even though Ive never ridden or driven in a Honda I liked, power wise thats for sure, and handling.

"mustangs cant turn", "gtos cant turn" , " I can school your domestic at any road course", "my domestic will tear all imports a new one"
Its ignorant comments like that, that get threads like this going. Theres always someone faster then you, theres always someone with more money than you, but blanket statements about other makes and models will get you nowhere.
I get a kick out of the guy that says, "I beat a Mustang"..... do they even know how many makes/years/models/motors a Mustang is?!

Domestic manufactures do a very poor job of extracting the same amount of energy per liter of displacement as their foreign counter parts. My old AE86 Corolla made the same horsepower per liter as a Z06.
If Honda were to make a engine as big as the one found in a Z06, I assure you it would probably do filthy things to American egos. It's nothing personal. GM just isn't big on energy efficiency. And don't be a dummy, there are lots of exotics that can hang with, if not outrun American supercars. I hope you haven't forgotten about the new GT-R, and the
Now don't get my wrong, I think a big rumbling V8 is hard to beat when it comes to that grab you by the balls kind of feel and sound. But a Fearrai, or still screams like an angry hot woman during sex, will run with a Corvette on the track, and will get you laid eight times as fast as a Corvette too. And don't forget about the 911 GT2, or anything from Ruf.
Although I think the Viper's V10 sounds really cool too. (same for the new M5)
Although I agree with everyone else. This is a really dumb argument.
yea i agree, lot people dont think domestic can handle ,but imo,my camaro handles well for stock car ,but my tires give out way before my car does..well least i like how it handles and having the TQ to push it through cornersOriginally Posted by Nemesis
yep, like u said thiers always someone faster
Only the most successful American cars could sell in Europe. European roads are insanely windy, tight, demand a tight turning circle and are fast. The European market demands small peppy, fun to drive and fuel efficient cars that will put up with the most grueling cold weather. It's why you can rent your basic A3 in Germany, go 140, fly through the Alps and get 45mpg. Most all of OUR American cars wouldn't suffice, except for maybe an SVT/Cosworth Focus or Cobalt SS...two cars in which their companies invested millions in to be a successful in Europe.
U.S roads are "mostly" stop and go and flat per square mile compared to all of Europe. Our current domestics (except a few) would be a joke to most Europeans and the reason we have imports and why imports are here is because our own economy can't produce good enough vehicles. It's hard to find our imports in Europe that are not our cars specifically made for their market, and it is nearly impossible to find our American domestics (STS, Malibu, Century) in Europe...yet imports here are a dime a dozen and most perferred by American Magazines comparison after comparison. The quality American cars out now are simply copies of European sedans, hot hatches, wagons etc..except for the legendary Vette/Viper/Stang. Those are in a class of their own.

I dont know about other makes but Ford has a completely different line of a vehicles sold in Europe and a lot of special versions for that region.Originally Posted by OnURleft

I saw a mondeo in Atlanta awhile back and they really should bring that here.Originally Posted by Nemesis

I'll agree wih everything except the "peppy" part. With the exception of Germany (out of the countries I've seen), Europe was flooded with Smart cars and the like. Lots of econo-boxes with tiny engines and very little get up. Basically small things that can fit on the congested roads, but horsepower was definitely not a focus. I'm not saying you didn't see fast cars here and there, I'm just saying the majority of autos had fuel efficiency in mind.Originally Posted by OnURleft

True, but most of these diesels and econo cars make full torque near idle all the way to redline and have a very smoothe powerband which makes it very easy to drive fast regardless of their lack of actual hp. If you don't believe me go drive the new Legacy turbo diesel or a TDI Jetta...They drive amazing and will fly down the highway with zero power. European cars utilize the most with the least. ..unlike most coffee grinding American shi.t boxes which take 3 seconds for the 4 speed autobox to slam down a gear before you barrel down the road in your flying sofa. It humorous driving almost any used or older American sedan with an autobox.Originally Posted by Deke

Out of the box, and at a similar price, an Ariel Atom will beat a ZR1. It's available as both a domestic and an import. Oh yeah, I like Vettes, and am not downing the ZR1 in any way. There is just always something faster.
HP per Liter solely wins races now? A pushrod motor has a flatter torque curve, and makes more HP per pound.Originally Posted by DrivenMind
But you might want to look down on BMW and Mercedes V12s and V10s too, since they have "less than stellar" HP/L. When I had my 240SX I used to hear people say what you said, and I disagreed then, and I do now.
