Default Honda considering offering JDM models in the U.S.

    Autoblog...

Much attention has been paid to Ford's decision to bring six Euro Fords over to the States, but the Blue Oval isn't the only automaker that has good looking, fuel efficient vehicles overseas. Honda has a variety of petrol-sipping vehicles in its Japanese home market, and is now studying whether those are worth selling here in the U.S. The Japan-to-U.S. formula has already worked well with the stylish, sporty and efficient Fit, sales of which are up 73% this year. While the Fit has been sold in the U.S. since 2006, it has also been available in almost identical trim in Japan since 2001.

So Honda is considering offering its JDM Odyssey and compact Stream wagon (above) for the U.S., which would give the brand some wagon-like choices in its lineup. For now Honda is trying not to deviate from its long-term plans, but if the gas-drag on the U.S. market persists, bringing JDM models to market here is a no-brainer if they don't require a ton of investment to meet U.S. emissions and safety standards. As you might expect, we're all for this plan. While they're at it, we'll take the JDM Civic Type-R, too.

    They don't make those anymore.

I hope we do get a lot of Euro and Japanese small cars. They have some really cool ones. I think a lot of people don't realize how many cars we don't get. Every manufacturer that sells here has cars that we have never seen in the states. I want an Audi A1, the BMW 1-series 3-door, I've loved to see A and B class Mercs, we need Nissan Micra's and Ford Ka's... etc....

This will be about FUEL EFFICIENT cars , not Civic Type-Rs.

Dont expect to see any JDM King honda cars coming over, expect small, tiny, 4 seater gas savers

meh....yeeaaahh civic type R.. The Ctr is a great car... but i mean we have plenty others here to rival it.. its kind of too late

    cobalt ss
    ms3
    Mini
    Gti
    Mugen Si

while the ford/chevy are bringing over the big guns.. and their specialty vehicles. And the european performance...along with it.

I disagree. What makes the Civic Type R so amazing is the balanced chassis. That car is 25% motor and 75% everything else. It laps faster than an s2000. While most of the cars you mentioned are torque steer monsters (not mini) the CTR isn't. But the Civic is much faster than all of those around a track.

I don't know, i drove the MS3 and it was pretty jumpy.

What do you mean not a fantastic event?

Typical Honda heads don't know what makes a car great anyway. I could care less what they think. This is a great drivers car just like the NSX is. This car is above the level of an Evo and an STI. Especially since the new ones are more about Pentium processors than mechanical driving skill.

Well now all the JDM fanboys can get a car that's actually JDM, other than some Spoon Mirrors, knockoff rims, and some stickers to prove it.

i agree that the FD2 is an awesome step from honda in this computer driver world. a while back when i was looking at the amuse and j's racing s2k's, i came across this beauty. i have only seen this vehicle race against s2k's. it does really well.

there is another video im desperate to find. I think it was two FD2 vs 2 s2000s and the FD2 won because of corner speed, control on the brakes, and even straight line. Just Fantastic car.

    Found the video....worth a watch
