just wondering what are some of the best mods i could make to this engine w/o rebuilding it. such as intakes, headers, etc... this is not important but i would like to hear some opinions from ppl who know more about engines than i do. anyhelps

Need to talk to Vteckidd
Depends if u want to stay all mtr or not.
*if u want to stay all mtr, there are several different headers from 300 to like 1200.
*a cheap upgrade ppl do is GSR cams, i think vteckidd has a few sets left for dirt cheap.
*a cold air intake (with by-pass valve) if u dnt know how to drive in the rain. lol!!!
or u can get the j's racing or password jdm carbon fiber intake.
*lightweight flywheel is a pretty good and noticable mod.
*custom exhaust (madrel bent 2 1/4- 2 1/2) or a good catback setup.
that is a pretty good start for a na setup IMO. vteckidd will be here soon, lets see what he has to say. Damn NA punk. lol!!
Im more into turbo B-series right now though, NA is later.
best thing you can do to a B16 is open it up and let it breath. what year B16 do you have ? i assume a 1st gen since it looks liek you drive a CRX.Originally Posted by 91crxsi
If your going to stay all motor, i would go with a GOOD header from day one. nothing makes more power in an all motor setup that what header you use. I am testing RMF's new B16 header in a few weeks, it runs $495. ive seen very good numbers out of it.
If $495 is out of your price range, look to gettign the DC JDM 4-1 Header with a 2.5in collector. they run about $280, they are the best bang for the buck.
Next i would look at getting some camshafts. BTEC is right, if you are on a budget, GSR cams are a good upgrade. i saw 5whp with a set of GSR camshafts in one of my customers b16s. the run $80. If you have a little more money to spend, CTR or ITR camshafts are a great buy. they are around $250-300 depending on the year/mileage. Skunk2 Stage 1 camshafts are great too. i had them in my old b16 crx, and they ripped! you can find those too for around $300-400. good thing about all these camshafts is you dont have to swap your valvetrain out, you can keep your stock valvetrain.
After camshafts , i would look into purchasing a VAFC to tune with, or chippping your PWO or PR3 ECU to run Turboedit to tune with.
you can do all these mods for under $1000 . should make it a nice fun little b16. hope this helps!

flywheel dammit!! ACT streetlite flywheel, gets u out the hole quick.
yes clutch and flywheel make a big difference. lightened flywheel will make that b16 SING and rev quick

I may know where you can get a good deal on a JDM DC 4-1 header for b16.
yes it does help. preciate the info everybody, post more if u kno more. and yea its the 1st gen b16...later

MSD ignition such as the SCI. Umm...of course headers exhaust and intake. Short throw work well too! B&M all the way.
The sun auto has very mixed results depending on the car and the grounding points you choose. I don't want to spend an hour or two of dyno time checking multiple grounding points to get a 3 whp gain which is usually the actual amount of power they give. On a turbo engine or if you are running a lot of I.C.E. it might be worth it but for the cost of that system even on ebay you can get things that will give you much more of a benefit. The grounding and voltage system would be something that I would save for the very last thing. If you are on a budget and want the best bang for the buck stick with tried and true methods of gaining HP, ie: good header, good exhaust, chipped ecu w/ custom tune, good air intake, and intake manifold. After that cams and maybe a little shave off the head for a compression bump. This is all my .02 so if anyone disagrees feel free to share.
well im on a budget. but i do want the best out of my car.
^^^I'm not quite ready to sell my header right now. It will be soon. I'll PM you a price for my header. If you have any questions about it contact Vteckidd he can tell you all about it. I got it from him brand new and he installed it. I am at the point where I have to step up to a high dollar header to see more results, my header is maxed out and I can't pull any more power out. Then comes port/polish/multiangle valve job! Somewhere in between I've got to take care of the suspension. Damn, I hate when I start talking about what I've got left to do and start adding up the $$$$. Hey does anyone want to sponsor me?! lol.![]()
well thx for all the info everyone... VtecKidd, ill be contactin u soon maybe to do some work to my car??? and 99SI, ill contact u about the header if i can get the money up or not next week
Gah i so disagree with you 99si!!! not really j/k. You have a very good point. I was just throwing some things out there for him =P
I believe he's talking about me. GSR Cams made a noticeble difference & for the price I would say it's worth it. That Dx CRX looks exactly like mine! I would say my light-weight flywheel made a big difference (7 lbs). Exhaust is pretty important also like VtecKidd says, Hi-Flow Cat & good header

also, wanting to know if i invested in a good exhaust system. i recently ordered the Greddy SP2 exhaust setup
I've got no cat and Charles @ Mainstream built my exhaust custom. Cat's vary greatly in price depending on the amount of precious metals in them. Gold and Platinum are what make Catalytic converters work, when they heat up to a certain temperature the metal(gold/platinum) has a chemical reaction that bonds the Carbon Monoxide and other polluting byproducts of the engine. Make sure that you get a cat that has the least amount of cells/square inch. Catco makes a decent one. I know that Apexi makes one that flows as if there is no cat, it costs about $1200. Most of the Japanese time attack and JGTC cars run them. On a full out race car they produce 0 ppm of Carbon monoxide. lol, they are good but I don't think you want to spend that much.
yea so you read the same super street i did lol.
I don't think it was super street. I can't remember. I retain everything I read, it can be a curse.
same here. Pm me some pics of your car. Ive never seen it before.
Thread Jack in progress/ This is it, I couldn't get the pics up in a pm so here ya go. As you can see suspension is the next issue to address so I can close up that wheel gap!
Sorry the pics are so big, I don't have any way to resize them. If anyone wishes to do this they are more than welcome to cut away!
hey man. arent u grown up enuff to kno that hijackin ppls threads are wrong??? haha jk, i got all the info i wanted.bump 4 ya rideOriginally Posted by 99SI

Yes, they are 15" Konig Heliums. Very light. Great improvement over the 17" Konig Tantrum's that were on it when I bought it. I also stripped out a very nice custom system that was in it. It also had (gasp!) altezza's on it when I got it that I swapped to a kid w/ an EX. So I now have an Si w/ EX tails. lol. Now just need to get rid of the body kit and put OEM front and rear bumpers and grill on it and I'll be dericed. Then I may even be a little bit of a sleeper since most people think that it's an EX anyway w/ the tails.
Certifit Front Bumper=$45
that with a OEM lip and POUND it to the ground
lose the wing, wingless=sexy

If I take off the wing I'll have bolt holes in my trunk, I don't want to have to bondo that shit and repaint it. That shit don't bother me that much. When I get around to it it'll get done. First things first, Omnipower coilovers, then we'll see about fixing the body.
FRONT BUMPER FIRST!!

lol, I really don't like the Pontiac grill in it. I got to make sure I can get it painted, no riding the primer for me. I'd rather have the bumper that's on it than rock the primer. Hey, since you put the Mainstream stickers on it and I'm repping the shop you should go ahead and take care of that bumper for me! lol. I'll hold my breath.
man get the OEM front and the oem foglights/w pods. Thats the hotness. Ive been thinking of trading my teggy for a civic just so i can that.get the oem side skirts and rear apron. or full oem carbon fiber kit $$ and get some 16 rota's foo! 15's are so small. or even some blades.
I picked my wheels for a reason, they're light as hell, plus they look good. I got rid of 17's and the options for 16" tires is not the best and are getting fewer all the time. More and more tire company's are dropping 16" tires all together. Now as for your OEM CF front, sounds great, got a few grand I can borrow? I have spent more than a few dollars on my engine and tranny and I plan to spend more to get my suspension where I want it. Now, when I get around to doing body mods I'll do it. I'm not so lost in what others think of my car that I'm going to spend money I could have spent making my car faster or handle better to make someone else like me or my car more. I could give two shits what anyone thinks about the way my car looks. In fact I kind of like the fact that people who see my car might think I'm some ricer with a loud exhaust, that is until I drop to third and pull to 10,000 RPM's on my way out of sight! Or until we get in the twisties and I throw my car into a corner at a ridiculous speed because I know that my LSD will snatch the car around and pull me out. 16" Rotas? Fuck 16" Rotas.
lol@mike
$45 bumper
$50 for paint
sell bumperto ricer kid for $150

I know I know. You should just do it and give me the bill! lol. hit me on aim real quick.
I'm just in a bad mood this afternoon and I don't like when people tell me what I need to do to my car. lol. I know what the fuck I want to do to my car. Now, I do happen to be a bit of a procrastinater but I know what I want to do. At one time I didn't and I asked you, but now I know and knowing is half the battle! (GI Joe reference) lol.
hey vteckidd, whats the estimate on havin my front end converted to a siR front end?? and who do u kno that can do it for a fair price?
^^^Keith that car looks like its on bags....lol
dude some good headers are HOOKER HEADERS by HOLLEY...it was proven for an 8 hp gain..i think in one of the earlier issues of super street or something had a write about it and the results were awesome...and i dont think the prices go to 400 something..if i was you..you dont have to get a whole new intake..just get a k&N filter stock replacement...and if i was you ill try and custom a pipe that runs under the air box that runs to the front end of the bumper..its cheaper that way and if you want performance thats what i'll do..its a whole lot better than getting a aem cold air intake that is like almost a 200 price range..and if you want some kool..use the whole air box thing and if your not satisfy with the intake tube just get a apc intake tube w/o the cone filter and use that because the stock has the funny lookin grooves and what you want is the most and smoothes velocity of air into the intake....but if you really want some thing even better...build or buy a surge take...this something neat that the 24 hour lemans guy are doing..im going to do it..what happens that air gets build up into the surge tank and then it shoots a shit loads of air into your intake...bam...more air equals more hp...
