    Default Honda Chassis Codes.

Is it just me or does anyone else get a little annoyed by the incorrect usage of chassis code by someone to describe what Honda they drive?

I know JDM or ebaydm is all the rage these days but unless you drive a real right hand drive Honda Civic hatch be it a Type R or Sir, you shouldn't be calling it an EG or EK.( The only usdm cars that have the distinction of being called an EG are the Del Sol and 4 door d15 equipped Civics of that time period).

Disclaimer: I'm not hating on Hondas.

Agreed. But I'd rather people just refer to their cars as what it is. For instance, I drive a 99 Prelude SH, no need to refer to it as a BB6, although it is

no its because you don't know how this all originated. Jdm is where all chassis codes and designs originate so that's why we use those codes. Ek refers to CHASSIS code NOT vin number. Jdm cars don't have vins. So you are wrong the chassis never changes and has nothing to do with vin or us cars

    LOL

So they dont have VIN #s but they have VIN PLATES?

Hey, i owned a JDM SIlvia, the "vin plate" as you call it is just its chassis number an code. its stamped on the firewall an usually on hondas on the radiator support.

its not really a "vin" which is a vehicle identification number

Congrats on having owned a Silvia but apparently your Honda knowledge is limited...You say ppl use whatever designations like slang. OK.

Let me use an analogy. Ebonics is slang. One can usually determine what is being said but those of us who nit pick as you call it, would rather see proper language usage, correct?

lol was that an attempt at an insult? Your right I am more known for making power than my knowledge of chassis codes haha

    you answered your own questions.

People use the CHASSIS code for THEIR car.

For instance, the highest model 96-00 civic is an EK9 aka Civic Type-R. There are are over 15 different models of civics, from 4 doors to hatches from 96-00.

Rather than confuse everyone by using 15+ different variations of codes, you would use the EK for ALL HATCHBACKS and EM for all COUPEs.

    Same FOR 92-95

    Same for EFs etc.

Now some people get super technical and say EF8 or EF7 or EF9, but the numbers oly designate the model (b16, ZC, SOHC, etc)

EK is still the CHASSIS code. USDM cars operate by VIN number which is different than JDM designations.

Sure if you want to be nit picky you can say US EKs are called EJs because that is in their VIN, but again, like i said, the chassis CODE IS EK.

Its really slang and if you are into hondas you know what it means.

I'm very into so Honda's, have owned before, currently do, and I'm sure I always will.

I consider myself to know a pretty reasonable amount on these cars but if you were to go to another forum where there are ppl that are waaaaaaaaay more knowledgeable about this issue, they would say the same thing I am saying....

Go over to Honda-tech or nwp4life and see if those guys don't say the same thing.

yes you are right if you are trying to ne really technical and you are taking it out of context. No one is going to say they own a ej2 or a eg7. Theywill just say eg or ek again its pure slang .
If you are into hondas you know what it means when its used.

I'm seriously not trying to be a prick so I hope that you're not taking what I'm saying in that context....However, I disagree strongly with your argument/point of view....

Likewise what really annoys me is people that say they drive a EK7 or a EF8

Why not just call it an EK or an EF

I personally call all 96+ civic 2 doors EKs, its just easier.

I call all 2 door civic EGs, rarely do i say EJ for the coupes

I call all 88-91 CRX or Civics EFs

    I call all 94+ 2 Door Integras DC2s

Its just so much easier that way. Most people know what you are talking about in contect of the conversation.

I have heard ppl call their Civic Dx's Ek9's....LOL Which makes no sense at all considering it's not a Type R...
If you're going to use a chassis code at least use the right number designated with said chassis code....

Truthfully this shyt doesn't keep me up at night but it just annoys me....
Just listening to ppl talk about their cars when they have no idea wtf they're talking about when you know different is really funny, particularly when a used car salesman uses this terminology...

I use them more as a chassis generation designation more than a model designation. I can tell people i have an EF and they know that i mean a 88-91 Civic/CRX. Saying that my cars are ED6 is just getting bogged into details

technically i have a EJ1, i'd rather tell ppl i have a EG coupe ,EG hatch,EGfourdr, etc.,it's less confusing and faster when talking to others with less knowledge of a certain car , nissan 240's have their own thing too,im not sure but it's like rms13,rps13,etc. yadda yadda, one's a coupe/hatch(fastback), but if im talkin to a nissan person, i'd rather hear s13coupe/hatch,s14,etc......................
