    Default Thinking about a (C5) A6 2.7TT.. your opinions

I'm getting to the point where my current daily, a gen7 Accord doesn't seem appealing any longer. I wanted it to look mean and shouty but even with HFP lips, it doesn't come across as any. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent car but I really want a bit more power without having to resort to pushing a blower in my K24.

Anyhow, I've always had a thing for 2nd gen (C5) A6s and have been noticing slightly high mileage (80-100k) 2.7TT examples with a manual tranny go for under $7-8k on fleabay and trashtrader. Does anyone own this particular version? I'm trying to get info on reliability and longetivity. I don't plan to go mountain carving with it, and a job as a daily with some lightweight rims and a drop will suit me just fine.

If not the A6, what else is there in the $6-8k segment. W203s don't have a manual (?) with limited aftermarket options and E46 330Cis are still too expensive.

No rants and death threats please. I am neither a Honda fanboy nor an Audi nut. I'm a MINIboi.

Big bucks on this specific engine or is the A6 crappy in general? My friend has a bone stock A6 with 100k miles and says it's very dependable.

That is probably the most expensive Audi on the road right now 1999+ to upkeep. We have two 2.7T's in the family. Buying one for 7-8k would be an absolute nightmare i'd rather deal with a functioning slow or reliable 2.8 or 325i . Buying a clean low milage one with an extended warrenty or and extremely well maitained one would be the only choice for me. No matter what i'd have to have a warrenty unless I was planning on doing something huge with it. One of ours just had the turbo's, seals gaskets replaced etc. etc routinely because they just went bad at 100k and it was about $8200 with labor. Thank god for warrenties. As of 110k it needs a new transmisson (about 4k) due to aggressive (but proper) driving. I have seen a few high milage ones 150-170k ones with original turbo's that still pull hard but they run sickly and your taking a risk hoping yours will actually last that long before it needs some major serivice. It's no BMW but its a great car to drive

Holy freak.. thanks for the real eye opener! So I guess it's the same with the S4, right?

I'd probably go with a manual 325i if I could get one for under 8-10k. The only Roundels I've seen in that price range are very high mileage E46 323s sedans. Guess a 2.0T/3.2 A4 is what I need to start looking at.

Just avoid the 2.7T at all costs unless your heart is set on one. Everything else is better. However i'm not a fan of 1.8's because they are just weak.

Hmm, there's no dearth of last gen (B6?) 3.2 A4s. Now I just have to find a cheap one that's equipped with a manual and isn't colored in golden s*it or boring silver.
