Default Corvette ZR-1 'Ring times in low 7:40s, GT-R V-Spec amused

    From Autoblog

""""Leading up to the official reveal of the Corvette ZR-1, a rare week went by when we didn't see spy shots of the General's new super coupe eating up the Nurburgring. But still images don't tell the whole tale, so InsideLine sent its spies to the North Loop with a video camera to capture an uncloaked ZR-1 making the rounds on the 'Ring. According to the men behind the lens, they were able to clock the 620 hp, supercharged 'Vette running laps "in the low 7:40s," easily within reach of supercars costing substantially more than the ZR-1's estimated $100k price tag. But what about the elephant on the 'Ring in the room? The Nissan GT-R V-Spec.

As reported earlier this week, spies caught the GT-R V-Spec lapping the Nordschleife, and with stopwatches at the ready, they were able to time Godzilla's lightweight (by an estimated 330 pounds), more powerful (70 hp or so) sibling at an unbelievable 7:25 per lap. According to the crew that crudely timed the ZR-1, the track was damp, so that 7:40 time could easily be improved by at least four or five seconds. But that's still a long way off.

Obviously, both lap times should be taken with a grain of salt considering the less-than-accurate way in which they were captured, but that won't stop the smack-talk. Keep it civil folks.""""

    *DISCUSS*

    Northloop Clock:

Nissan Skyline GTR VSPEC - 7:25
    Porsche Carrera GT - 7:28
    Porsche 997 GT2 - 7:32
    Chevy Corvette ZR1 - "Low 7:40"
    Porsche 997 GT3 - 7:42

I blame it on the softer suspension.

The Zo6 was the brake your back Chevy track weapon.....that well.....Made Sense!

The ZR1 is turning into the "my car has all this power and a soft ride and big cushy seats i can brag about"

I dont ever bash auto manufactures and only judge the cars themselves on how good of a driving machine it is. And the ZR1 just seems to be soft to me.
Im hoping more accurate ring times and real performance tests.....Like 0-100-0 and other circuit times result in a better image for the car.

They love to do the skidpad test in cars but they should also run the cars around the track.

Car&Driver/Automobile/MotorTrend/ and Auto week hot lapping for the best numbers around Laguna Seca!

i'm not gonna start with the price because at the end of the day......it is worth it.

Corvette's have some of the best $ per HP of any car in the world......

the argument here is whether the ZR1 is just a HP bragging tool for middle aged men or a proper race track based street car.

The brakes have to be far superior than the stock c6z's which arnt the best for a track car. On the new ZR1 The unsprung weight and the simple fact that they are oversized and off a Ferrari should really cut its time. With that and simply less weight and more power I don't see how it could be slower or even the same unless the suspension is seriously weak..but don't they have that new magnetic stuff? Thats actually affective for going fast. Very.

On second thought my neighbor rolled up in his 997 GT2 yesterday. 3rd one in Georgia. So sexy.

Plus...if it really was damp, then the GTR had a considerable advantage over the vette. He probably couldn't even stomp on the gas in the first two gears.
