depends on what you want, something that you can put a little money into and have a quick car, or something that you can do simple bolt-ons and have a tire roaster.
also, whats the budget?
depends on where ya wanna go with it...
Honda Civic (EF, EG)
Acura Integra (DA, DC)
Nissan 240 (s13)
Nissan SE-R (B13 or B14)
Miata (FIRSTGEN)
all these cars are easily affordable and easily modified and good Starter cars
what was your starter car?Originally Posted by PURE jdm

i say sohc civic really doesnt matter eg ef ek just that its sohc motor is small enough for you to work on by yourself. also if you mess up something there are plenty of ppl on here either giving them away or selling them dirt cheap. It will also build up your confidence to get your hands dirty with a motor when you step up to the sti,evo big 240 swap stage in tuning!
lol you put a 240 in the same category as a sti or an evo.Originally Posted by JDMJAYDC2
I would say any of those cars in that list, just find something thats not going to break down on you all the time. My first "tuner" car was a civic si.
but my first car was a jeep cherokee.
lol i said big 240 swap such as a 2jz or rb26 i would think its safe to say they are in the same class as far as where you can take them fairly cheaply cheap being the funny word i for one am not there yet ill stick with my dc2Originally Posted by DerrickT

In addition to what everyone else has said, also look into early 90s/late 80s 5.0 Mustangs. If you're looking for cheap power, they're the ticket.
Get you a Cavalier 4 door, you'll live longer. Fast cars for youngsters and first time drivers only make them stupid.

They arent fast, but they are fun. An they are cheap maintanence and for a first car, this is a HUGE factor. and cheap on insurance
mods are EVERYWHERE from simple bolt ons to turbo kits.

yeah, a family friend died in his rsx not too long ago. flipped it into a tree. im tryin to get the feel of a 5spd oldsmobile alero, them shits are stiffOriginally Posted by ruffian
i still drive my dad's old maxima lol, but i personally like 1g DSMs
problem with DSMs is that they are like a disease. They infect you and then never leave.Originally Posted by WTS3
plus most turbo ones have been ragged on and are money pits.
but usually you become a glutton for punishment and no matter how much that car mistreats you, you keep coming back for more.

I'm in the process of getting my 1st car.
240 with 2-2.5K
I might spend $700 on the car, this is if I buy it, then buy a CA (900) or SR (1400) then do the motor swap with a bunch of my friends at an air port.
So in all 2100 at most because the labor is free![]()
Remember this is a maybe
But I'm for sure getting a 240

I don't mean to discourage you, but don't forget all the extras you're going to need swapping engines. Fluids, Hoses, belts, ECU, other supplies.Originally Posted by Subuari

The Honda Civic.
Any year you can afford.
it'll get you from point A to E![]()
honda civic or a nissan sentra
my first car was a mazda mx-6.
ghet-to.
it was fun though, it taught me how to drive a 5-speed.
but i agree with the prevous person who said a crx.
i think that'd be the perfect first car, if you're into hondas.![]()
