    Default SR20DET vs 3SGTE vs 4G63

    All are 2.0 4cyl turbo japanese engines with somewhat similar performance and potential. Which one would u argue is the best one?

    3sgte is a good motor, but the head doesnt flow nearly as well as the other two motors.

    My brother had a galant with a vr4 RS 4g63 that came stock with 510cc injectors and a large fmic, and a big 16g. Shit made power. I had a s15 sr with that came with stock 440 cc injectors and a t28 bb turbo. Shit made power. My brother broke 2 trannys in under 3k miles. I bought a 91 mr2 turbo, I gutted the cats, put a air filter on it and a profec b, safc and a m300 wideband, turned the boost up to 15lbs. Shit was slow as dirt. I raced a pos stock fox body from my neighborhood, ragged out, with a broken rear window and he still slowly walked me. That was the last straw, so I sold that pos after my brief 3weeks of ownership and went back with 240's with sr's.

    My answer is

    4g63=Sr20 (motor only and not trans) ( or crank walking issues)

    gen2 do not respond well to mods, but the gen3 easily can make 300whp with just a boost controller and is a way better motor than the gen 2 version. I will actually rank the gen3 3sgte 2nd and I will bump the sr20 to 3rd place

    i say sr20 the 4g63 just breaks. n breaks. n breaks. i kno this fromexperience them cars break once a week. very unreliable. but 4g63 is cheaper 2 make go fast i think/

    Correction, the "old" 7 bolt 4G63 would break, crankwalk, etc... The older 6 bolt was good and the 7 bolt in the current Evo is good.

    *edit* I have to compare them correctly.

    Top model 4g63 and sr
    vs
    base model 3sgte

    So if it was (power wise) a plain jayne 4g63, a redtop sr and a 3sgte, then it would be about the same.

    Now with the other two I listed previously, if it was a 3rd Gen 3sgte, then my story would be diff and all three would have the similar power.

    Ive seen 700+ hp 3sgte's, 4g63's, sr20's, so I would make a poll on reliability rather then power. Then maintenance. A 4g63 is Maaah/ok to work on, a mr2 is a pain in the ass to work on, and a 35year old retarded man with no GED can work on a rwd sr20.

    3sgte i would prob say is the most reliable and strongest
    the most power is probaly a 4g63
    and as far as moding goes the sr20 responds better then all of them

    But it really depends what you want to do and how much you want to spend

    They are all good. Mitsu, nissan, and toyota guys, no need to argue for the next 15pgs. Just to stick with what you know. 99% of yall will never go above 300-400 hp which all three will do, so there is no need to argue on "so and so" motor will handle 1000hp with $50k running off alchohol.
