    Default Another Who Would Win???

    I got a guy wanting to run me roll or dig with a 1968 Nova with a ls6 454 in it and it has headers,cam,victor 1 intake manifold,850carb,auto with 373 gears. He said that it is a 450 horse engine stock and he is not sure what it weighs in at but I bet it's heavy. My car is a 2004 big turbo SRT-4 and my last dyno was at 386whp and I think it would be more than that now and it's suppost to weigh in at 2900lbs. I don't really know much about the old school muscle like that so I figured I would get some oppinions from you guys before hand to see what i'm up against. Don't know if I want any of it or not, the Nova sounds mean as hell, sounds like I would be bringing a chihuahua to a lion fight.lol

    go from a dig and make him run street tires. I seriously doubt he's doing better then the 12.4 you got in your sig.

    He will be on street tires too. When he gets on it, it looks like he is skating all over the place cause he is spinning so bad but it looks like he is pulling hard also.

    I don't really think i'm ready for it imo but not really sure i've never seen what my car looks like pulling with me out of it but the Nova looks like it pulls really, really hard.

    I think you can get him. If you can control wheel spin. I love V8s. But the power to weight is just too much on your side. And plus. I bet he has a th-400 3 speed. And with 3.73 depending on tire height he probably tops out around 110mph or lower. His car is probably a nice 13 sec car on street tires. But alot of this is a drivers race. Cuz that 454 big block has a hell of a lot of torque. And if he can get it out the hole he is goin to jump u by a lenght or two. BUT being on street tire he will mostly spin. At the track with slick this would be a good race. But again this could go either way really. But I think you can get them. In a roll he is weak becuz of the limited top end. But also in a dig he is weak becuz of the massive torque im talking like 500ft lbs easy on street tires is a burnout contest.

    One of by friends told me that he went 7's in the 1/8th on street tires spinning the whole 1/8th. Thats hard for me to beleive but if he did I dont want any.lol

    man, if he is on tire and can put down 400whp...he is prob runinng 11s. tq is crazy on the launch.

    No replacement for displacement. He would probably get you on the kick, from a roll, but you would come around him on the top end. From a dig he would get you and you not be able to catch up in time.

    The difference from a dig is he will pull hard while spinning. I'm not a fan of roll racing but if he agrees to a roll depending on his tranny you can probably get him. If you r car is anything like mine you will just spin and not move much, he will still pull hard while he spins making it hard for you to play catch up from a dig.

    i'm going to agree with him. you may be boosted but he's running twice the cylinders you have giving him the tq advantage. v8's have the low end tq that boosted 4 cylinders don't have. but you have the advantage of top end. and i'm going to make a guess that he is weighing around 3500lbs with him in the car.

    is it a money race? or fun run?

    They are saying $500 dig or roll. If it was just for fun I would do it for the hell of it but with the money involved i'm not really sure about the run, I don't know if I have a chance or not and i'm alittle tight on money right now to be loosing $500. It would be really nice to win that $500 though, I could use that extra money.

    ^ thats what im saying, if its just for fun do both, roll and dig. Remember you win some and you lose some and there is always going to be someone faster than you. But my prediction is he will get you from a dig but you will get him on the roll. Oh and if you decide to do this, get a video of it.

    Stop being a pussy - 400whp FWD is a kick in the pants if you've learned how to launch the car even moderately. Set your 2step about 500 rpms higher than where your HP and TQ lines cross on the dyno... feather - then SMASH... it's critical that you power-shift the 1 --> 2 and then just don't miss 3rd... do that and you should be driving around him. For $500 make it 2 outta 3 so you have time to make some changes --- and invite me. Good luck.

    I don't have 2step on my car but wish I did. If I do run him it's probly gonna be a roll cause I spin to much from a stop on these street tires. Hell, anything below 60mph I blow the tires off. But yea i'm a puss if it's for that amount of money and i'm not sure I can win.lol. Thats alot of money to just throw away. If it was for fun I would run the Nova however he wants.

    HP and trq lines will ALWAYS cross at 5250 on any dyno. If they don't the dyno is off. Torque is just a function of horsepower, so at 5250 is where they cross and are equal.

    I was about to say the same thing.. Every dyno I have ever done. The lines have crossed at 5250.

    Blue you should come out to Steele tonight. I got a new tune on the car and its making almost 500lb ft of tq

    That's awesome but I cant come out tonight got to stay around the house. Last time I looked it was raining around the Steele area but it might have cleared up by now. If it don't rain you out let me know what you run.

    is it just me or does that power rating for the v8 sound low? From his mods I would expect alot more.

    Well the LS6 454 is rated at 450hp stock and they say that they were under rated also. My guess would be he's probly over 500hp if thats the case but i'm not really sure. My grandfather said that he had a 1970 Chevelle SS with that same engine that was a bone stock car and he said he ran 11.8 in the 1/4th with slicks on it. He says that Nova should be a 10 sec car if it will hook. If that's the case i'm not ready for it but the rolls and stops are a total different ball game. I have beat cars that has run alot better times than me from a roll.

    if this is the same guy thats from the northside that got beat buy a boosted GSR and got mad and said he would run ne one for $500 he had like a 125 shot on it. but this could be a diff guy

    i thought the ls6 package was a fairly rare option. i know alot of them came with a 454. but not sure abot the title ls6. i will have to search that.

    i dont know all the specs of the 454 but if it is just stock moded and on pump gas i doubt it is make over its cubic inch usual that takes some major upgrades to that high

    as i thought. the ls6 only came in the 1970 chevelle ss. all other 454 in the 70s were ls5 with only 300 and something hp. even with the ls6 with the over 450 hp it only ran 13.2 best cuz of street tires. and plus the car weighed 3900lbs. Like i said it not that all crack up to be. plus the ls6 with 11.25Cr u cant run that on todays pump gas. I serious doubt its a true ls6. i wouldnt run 4 money but i bet if u race him unless u screw up u will get it. unless he has a trick up his sleeve

    He said that he burns like 116oct in it cause it want hardly run on the pump gas, so I bet it is a real one then if that's the case. He has like 10in to 12in tires on it to to try and help with the hook and it still wont. I rode in the car yesterday before all the rain and I don't think I could win, everytime I shift a gear I think he would pull a car or two ahead, it had the same powerband all the way through and mine looses alittle between gears cause of the turbo lag. They did feel really close though when i'm in my powerband too. I told him I could not run for any money right now that I would do it for the hell of it and he said he might just to see what they will do with one another.
