How can u tell if your wheel bearings are bad

I was told if the wheel had back and forth play in it that usually pointed to a bad wheel bearing. But when I jacked my car on to its side and checked for play I couldnt fine any play in the wheel

they will usualy make a howling noise...

And then the wheel will fall off.

mine kinda makes a rumble and i can feel it in the car but its only at about 35-40 miles an hour. i dont know if its my rear wheel bearing or not but im guessing it is

Yeah its a wheel bearing. I gotta fix one on the eclipse but i been putting it off.
