You can't, there's a huge crossmember in the way. I looked it over and considered doing it but it didn't seem logical... putting it in from the top was actually quite easy, overall.

Pretty much, yeah. Of course we did the full timing belt/reseal/tuneup so you need to add those parts.

aaronfelipe, we do swaps like this for around $6000 typically, that includes everything, turn-key, ready to go out the door.

High miles... I think 150+... I would use it as a core, I wouldn't just swap it in.

not bashing but out of curiosity why is it 6k for installation ive seen those 1jz clips go for around 1-3k for a whole clip pretty much all thats left is swapping over parts from one mkiii to another. so where does the other 4k get justified remember theres shops putting 2jz in 240's for 8k turn key and this is a swap thats pretty straight forward requiring no custom parts "atleast i would think it wouldnt" just wondering please clarify.

you guys are the shop i just dont understand i know Mainstream just put a 2jz in a mkIII i wonder how much that ran compared to this, i guess if i did the swap id understand but it aint registering for 6k thats like 4k worth of labor is that what im hearing :thinking:

pic for proof not sure of cost but if they can do this under 6k then id inmagine a 1jz should be way less seeing as thats the JDm MKIII original motor.

Actually fellas the labor for the swap here is about $2200 if the motor is in a half cut. What everyone who hasn't done this swap will never know is that the wiring harness and many other parts of the MKIII's changed every 2 years making the wiring different for nearly every swap. Then the wiring harness has to be extended since it goes in the other side of the fire wall. Unless you have a newer MKIII you have to swap the cross member and its related parts. You have to drop the tank to put in a better fuel pump vs take out the rear carpet in a 240. You have to change the water pump, you don't really have a choice which means the timing belt comes off too. Until you really look into doing the swap you have no idea how much more time consuming it is than you think. Plus there are alot of things that go with the swap other than labor. If you just take a motor out of one car and put it in another your asking for problems.

labor rate is probably the same regardless of which motor you use (as the 1jz and 2jz are similar enough when it comes to the basic swap). you should also consider that a 2jz aristo cut can be had for about the same price as a manual soarer front cut. so the red car might have a 2jz but its probably an auto.

Like Cool Cat Racing said, there's a lot more to it than that. Here's a breakdown:

Nice front-clip $2500
Shipping $450
Engine install labor (at SCC in Savannah) $1800
Misc install parts (fuel pump, fluids, etc) $500
'87 Conversion Brackets (or '89+ crossmember/mounts) $350
Custom (or 2JZ) power steering line $115
New timing belt, all seals, gaskets, 2JZ water pump conversion, etc etc $750
Labor on timing belt/tuneup/etc $400
Total swap on '87 Supra $6865

Then add...

3" Turbo-back Stainless Steel Mandrel-bent Exhaust $950 (including custom install, optional)
Stage 3 clutch (optional) $500

$8315 and we haven't even upgraded very much yet!


So yeah, you could buy the clip and just swap EVERYTHING over including the hydralic fan assembly, not do the timing belt/tuneup, if you have an '89 not need the different mount setup, and do it all yourself in your driveway, and get away with it for like, $4000 after bringing it to an exhaust shop to hook it up to the stock exhaust. Is that the best way to go about a swap like this? No. Do some people do it? Sure. But that's not what people pay us for, they pay us to do it RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. :goodjob:

$6000 is pretty cheap for that, especially considering youy have to extend the entire wiring harness 3ft.

The 2JZ MKIII ran:
$6000 but he supplied the $600 R154 tranny an a used clutch. that was using a stock sidemount, no replacing of anyhing, etc, etc ,etc.

it was a a cheap swap, he just wanted the wiring an the engine mounted. He took car of the rest at his house, he dropped it off, we installed an got it running, then he took it home to finish it up.

Usually a NORMAL MKIII 2JZ swap is in the $8000-10,000 neighborhood for a front mount, radiator, exhaust, etc.
