I got in contact with someone from the league today and here is the information i got:

-We need 13-16 players.

-It's $480 bucks for the team... but if 80% of the team doesn't live or work in gwinnett county we will be charged and extra 50%.

-League play is out of bethesda, lucky shoals, and george pierce parks.

-Registration begins on jan 16 at 9am.

-Play begins on march 5th.

-It's a 10 game season

-There are playoffs.

-Players must be a minimum of 18 years old by September 1 of the current year.

-We can register online at gwinnettparks.com or in person at any of the parks where the games are going to be held.

This is an article i found about the leauge on some gwinnett periodical website.

"Weekend Warriors"

Playing ball is not just child’s play. Softball has become an avid obsession for many grown-ups in the county. Nearly 9,000 adults in Gwinnett participate in adult softball leagues through Gwinnett Parks and Recreation — and that’s not including leagues formed in churches and private associations.

“A lot of people don’t realize how big it is and the number of people playing,” said Dee Miller, athletic programmer for Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation. “In adult softball, we’re probably one of the top two programs in the state, in terms of number of teams, in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association.”

Each year, more than 600 county teams, with approximately 12 to 15 players each, will convene at Pierce Park, Lucky Shoals Park and Bethesda Park for weekend (and weeknight) games. Adult softball is a year-round sport and has become somewhat of a passion for these weekend warriors. According to Miller, it’s not just about competing and getting physical exercise, socialization keeps people coming back year after year. “There’s a lot of friends coming together just to play softball,” he said.

But it’s not just about the fun. Players are serious about their ball, and Parks and Recreation ensures that everything runs smoothly. Leagues are organized by groups, ranging from an open men’s league to an industrial league for companies. Women have their own league, or can play on co-ed teams. A lottery system determines when teams will play, and a computerized schedule is distributed.

Each team will play ten games, but the fun isn’t over after that. The team that has the most wins in a season becomes the league champion, ensuring enough bragging rights until the games begin again. In the spring league, a qualifying tournament adds to the excitement.

Playing through Parks and Recreation will cost a team approximately $300-400. Often, teams will go all-out and find sponsors to offset the cost. Parks and Recreation provides the fields, umpires and scorekeepers. All you have to do is come play!

For more information on adult softball, contact Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation at

770-822-8840... 770-822-5152 is for the office that deals with the actual leauge.

So let's get a list of the people who are definitely down to pay their way and play some softball. Add your name to the list only if you are serious about playing... I'll start.

Also post up what county you live and work in for registration fee purposes.

I'm most definetly in. I'm in Gwinnett both work and home.

Just FYI:

Bethesda Park is right off Ronald Reagan Pkwy. Very easy to find. But there are no major highways close by. The closest major tributary is Hwy 29/Lawrenceville hwy. It has really great fields. 300 ft fences.

Lucky Shoals-it's been a while, so I can't remember it off the top of my head.

George Pierce is in Suwanee. Lots of major highways can get you there because it's right near the corner of Buford Hwy and L'ville-Suwannee rd. Fields are so-so, shorter fences and to get to the fields kinda sucks because you have to drive all the way to the end of the park itself. It is easier to get to since you can use Lville-Suwanee rd, Buford Hwy, P'tree Ind., etc.

The most important thing, I know from experience, is making sure that EVERYONE that says they'll play SHOWS up when it comes time to play. There are strict rules about subs and # people on your roster. Cry babies like to protest games and if you don't do it right it will cost you games.

If we need extra players or ringers, I have plenty.

I like to play the infield BTW.

4/19/04- Duluth, GA) The Duluth Wildcats (12-6) beat the undefeated in region play Shiloh Generals 5-3. The win brings Duluth to 2-2 in region and Shiloh now stands at 4-1. Glen Martin (2-1) pitched an outstanding game, going the distance for the Wildcats. He was a bit shaky in the first two innings, giving up two runs on five hits. But then Martin settled down giving up just one unearned run on two hits the next five innings.

The key to the win was Duluth's timely hitting including a two run home run by Nathan Chancey (4) and a solo shot by Patrick Brock (2) in the second inning that gave the Wildcats a 3-2 lead. The Generals scored an unearned run in the fifth to tie the game. However, the Wildcats came back in the bottom of the sixth to score two runs to put the game away. Patrick Brock (2-3) got the winning RBI on a bases loaded single while B.J. Stapleton scored an insurance run on a wild pitch. Other offensive highlights include Andrew Martin (3-3), all three singles, Brook Birdsong (2-3) with a single, double; B.J. Stapleton (2-3) with two singles; Caleb Mason (1-4) a single and Hudson Holder who was 1-3 (single).

The Wildcats continue with region play this Wed at Norcross at 7:00 PM

that is when he topped out at 90 mph lol

hes got a few perfect games, numerous shutouts and hold the strikeout record at bunten park

All are welcome as far as i'm concerned as long as you can swing a bat, field a ball, and make it around the bases without having a heart attack.

About needing "ringers"... Whoever you want to bring as long as it remains friendly and we have some roster spots open for IA'ers. I don't know if the pitching is competitive in the league but we def need someone who can fill that spot.

I'm supposed to call that dude back on monday to get an overview of what the scheduling is going to be like.

Everyone i saw so far that has expressed interest:

Jaimecbr900
01-06-2007, 01:05 AM
If I remember correctly, you can carry quite a bit more people on your "roster" than the 10 that are going to be out in the field. This is meant so that if you call someone to play when a regular is not available, he is supposed to be on the original roster. This really only matters if another team protests you.

Pitchers are hard to come by. It's not as easy as it looks. I know a really good one, but he's not on IA. I'd rather someone from IA step up, but worse come to worse I have people available if need be.

First base is also pretty important.

Everyone can pretty much hit the ball, hence most games are won with good fielding since everyone will eventually hit the ball and score.

Keep in mind that if we try and get together, daytime is going to be our best bet. Gwinnett Co. doesn't just turn on lights on all their parks for the hella of it. I know the park right up the street from the house has got 2 ball fields big enough for us, but they're sometimes open and sometimes not.

That's probably going to be the case most everywhere. Usually if there's a park for the kids (swings, jungle gym, etc.) then those fields around that park are left open. I know that Bethesda has 3 big fields that as far as I know aren't kept locked (they weren't last time I played there). I could go by there and check it out if need be. It's not too far from my office.
