Head coach Nick Saban is leaving the Miami Dolphins to accept a job with the University of Alabama, ending his two-year run in the NFL.

Saban told the Dolphins assistant coaches Wednesday morning that he was leaving, accepting an offer that is believed to be worth approximately $40 million over a 10-year period, although there are variable structures within the deal that Alabama put on the table. In the process, Saban left with three years remaining on his five-year contract with the Dolphins. He made $4.5 million annually.

He is expected to become the highest paid head coach in college and the first to top the $4 million per year figure.

However, the overwhelming factor in leaving for Alabama was not money. Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga had made it clear he was willing to pay more to keep Saban. Rather, Saban had grown frustrated with how to rebuild the Dolphins, thinking the project might be too difficult to accomplish in a short period of time.

The Alabama head coaching job is always a doomed position. Alabama fans will never get over the fact that Bear Bryant has been dead for over twenty years and no matter how good a coach does he will never succeed b/c he will be forever compared to "THE BEAR". AL fans it's time to get over it, move on. What Alabama really needs to do is fire the Athletic Director, he is the biggest problem, not the coach.

no thats not the problem

the problem is the "mafia" as they call it

a group of unknown people who make all the calls (to do with the office), its like a secret society and thats why they will never be like the past

Steve Spurrier makes 1.75mil/yeas plus 500k added every year starting last month
Jim Tressel makes 1,878,900/year and will make 2.8/yea by the end of his contract

Tressel WILL become the highest paid coach in the country (yes, higher than Saban) if he wins the NC again. Even if they lose to UF, I bet he'll get a raise to at least 3M. Of course he may also end up the Browns coach.

40 lol... Between Auburn, UGA, LSU, Tennesse, Florida, and now apparently Arkansas is showin' some balls... SEC is definatly the toghest conference, I dont see Bama beatin' out all those teams anytime soon.
