ok i have a Bone Stock Honda and i am starting off with my first mods to this car soon. I have a question about getting the exhaust system. does brand names really matter as far as quality because i have head thins such as CAI that you can spend $200 on a brand name or spend $50 on an ebay CAI and get the same effect. My question is would yall get a brand name exhaust or stick with a generic brand. and if so why. also by doing this does it affect the performance of the exhaust etc etc.. a good website would be useful to get good exhausts.

P.S. i have a 1997 Honda Civic HX with a D16Y5

all help is greatly appreciated..:D

uhh and exhaust wouldnt make any diffrence in performance.... mostly sound... but if i were you i would stick to name brand... some ebay exhaust corrode and break off, or the fitment sucks on nuts and you would prob have to take it to the shop and reweld a hanger.. or you could lose performance because of bends...

1 NUMBER ONE DRAG Cat-Back Exhaust System - DX/CX Hatchback - Stainless Steel Muffler with Coated Steel Piping - Pipe size: 2.25"/57mm - Tip size: 4.5"/114m

i Found this on nopionline.com.. even though it says dx/cx hatchback would it still fit on my car? and also is this worth it to buy this exhaust.. at least decent quality?

i don't like muffler shop ones but if you do get one put a resonator on it or it will sound ricey.

allrighty i called NOPI and heres the thing maybe yall can help me with this. Since my 97 Civic is an HX the catalytic converter is in the header. The guy i was talking to said if i want an exhaust system i will have to replace everything (header, exhaust, and get a catalytic converter). But i cant find any cheap headers for my specific car. Also if i do take it to an exhaust shop what do i tell them i need done? i live in suwanee so any place in the Gwinnett area would be nice. thanks..

Exhausts Shops SUCK, cause they use CRUSH BENT PIPING.

if you want a good exhaust:
1) Ours, Mandrel bent stainless steel and YOU pick the style muffler from Magnaflow.com
2) Greddy EVO 2, great sound an decent quality
3) Skunk2 Catbacks are pretty decent as well
4) NOPI is ok if your on a really tight budget.

Intake wise, i would get the NOPI brand with an AEM filter.

thanks mike.. also did you see what i was talking about with the fact that this guy said i wil have to replace the header and get a catalytic converter etc.. because my civic is an HX. and the exhaust from mainstream how much would that run me?

your motor has the Catalytic convertor in the manifold up top. you have 2 options:

1) Buy an aftermarket header, aftermarket cat, extend the o2 wires, get a custom exhaust

2) leave the factor header and cat and just run the exhaust from the bottom piece.

#1 is obviously more expensive. Our exhausts run $350 WITH a muffler, Cat is $100, pick up a header for $80-100 from NOPI

so if you were going to choose an option the smart thing to do would be just to save up a little bit and choose option number 1..?

Vteckidd
01-02-2007, 01:41 PM
if you want a power gain, then yes, option 1 is best. but it depends what your budget allows of course :)

Mangrum
01-02-2007, 05:36 PM
true.. so with option 1 we are looking at somewhere near $550.. and with option 2 it would be around $350 at Mainstream?

Vteckidd

yes sir

Mangrum
01-02-2007, 05:50 PM
also one more question i know you are prolly getting tired of this by now.. but if i did choose option 2.. it is possible to get an exhaust from just the bottom part right. because the guy that i talked to on the phone from NOPI made it seem like with my car there was no other choice but to replace everything? but your saying that you guys can custom make an exhaust just from the bottom part and still be fine and that would just affect pretty much sound. and if i take option 1 it would have a power gain as well as changing the sound?

Vteckidd

you can do option one, what we would do is disconect part that comes off the header, make a flange, and hook it up from the "normal cat location" back.

since we make everything custom we can do that.

the "nopi/bolt on exhausts" are made to fit to EX models with the traditional cat location, so they are correct those wont simply, BOLT on.

Vteckidd
01-02-2007, 05:58 PM
and yes any exhaust should see some type of power gain over 2in piping lol

not true at all

it will make a performance difference
i would stay away from catback systems, its mostly overpriced stuff

go to a shop and have them make something custom
get a bigger piping to the engine and avoid as many turns as possible, goal is to make it as straight as a journey as possible with as little as possible catylitic converters or if you have to have some make them atleast highflow ones.

too small of piping chokes your engine
too big will create a vacuum

find the sweet spot
