I've got a D50 and I love it. I think it's perfect for what I do, nothing to serious. I have been really happy so far with the pictures I'm able to take with it. I recommend it!

Nikon makes white/grey lenses as well.
So anyways, you're wanting something around the price range of the D50? Look at the RebelXti and the D70. You might like either one. Dont base your wants and needs on bandwagon reviews. Most people are die hard Canon and will be till the day they die, and same for Nikon users. Both companies make excellent hardware and glass. The DSLR jump isnt for every person though. Remember even after you buy a kit for 800 or so dollars you still will eventually need more lenses in the future. A lot of high end point end shoots can cover a nice range that a DSLR cant out of the box with a kit lens.
But I will say this, Nikon has over 40 years of lenses that CAN STILL BE USED on their digital platforms. Cant say the same for Canon.

^^^ interesting. Ive been liking the canon, but Reading the nikon thread on honda tech, and readin the canon, i think im leanin towards nikon by the long shot. Im really liking the D50, cause it is cheap and i can upgrade the lenses. but would the d70 be to much for me being a noob.

If you're wanting a very simplified DSLR with the ability to use all sorts of Nikon lenses check out the D40. :goodjob:

So the D40 is better then the D50 in the fact you can you more lenses? If i were goin to start off with the d50 they sale the kit for 549 at wolfcamera. But over all which is better the 50 or 40.

The D40 is a great starting camera body. It uses all the same lenses available as any other Nikon body. There is no difference in that aspect. In your case I would spend more of the money on the lens than the body itself. Your camera is only as strong as your sharpest lens.

Just a friendly observation from one photographer to another, you might want to clean your image sensor, I was looking at some of your images on your site and there are blobs all on your pictures. A little clone stamp or healing might also help.

So your saying body wise the 40 and 50 are the same, and the 40 fits all the lenses I would want. And the 50 cant fit as many lenses as the 40. lol im confused i guess.
CodyW

no. the D40 and D50 can use the same lenses (all nikon D-SLRs can use the same lenses actually, and same for pretty much any company).

Basically what I think George is trying to say is that the bodies are close enough but still utilize the wide range of lenses that Nikon offers so you will be good either way. The key here is that the lense makes the difference. Bodies are disposable but good glass will last. Personally I have shot with both (Brady has a shot of me with a Nikon  ) and I lean more towards the Canon but both brands offer a great product. Good luck with your choice.

yes they can
i just got an FD to EF converter adn i can use all hte older lenses that have the same focal lengths and aperatures for half the price...(always canon lenses of course, no sigma here)!
so lets not go there
i will have to agree with AP though, i personally bought my Rebel XT about 4 or 5 months ago, and since then spent over 1000 on lenses and accessories. Finally getting a 70-200 f/4L that came in last night!
its not a hobby or obsession for the cheap or poor. you get what you pay for, ad its often alot
but if you go canon, remember some of the lenses wont fit some bodies, the 10-22 EFS wont fit a 1d or 5d, but will fit hte 10-30d.
one day ill get a 20d or a 30d...maybe around tax time

D70s is for soccer moms that like to take pictures of their kids.. mostly just because they want to have a nice camera.
D50 is a great camera that you can learn on and it takes amazing pictures.
