So im turning 21 in about a month and have been looking at some pistols. What im leaning towards at the moment is Springfields new series. Theyre suppose to be competing with the Glock. Composite Handle.. lots of caliber choices, and decent prices too. Ive always wanted a glock tho... Anyways, Discuss.

Shoot both and get which ever one you are more comfortable with.

ive shot a glock .40 and 9, a Sig 9, Colt 45, and some others. Over all feel..Springfield. The glocks grip is too narrow..It kinda makes the barrel heavy.

I would go out and shoot a few of them, The XD is a very nice gun, I have the predecessor to it. The gun fits my hand very well and points very well. But it all depends on your hand. A Glock may fit better in a bigger hand.

one thing about the .40 it's nice but much more $$ to shoot compared to a 9mm. You can get conversion barrels for the xd to shoot 9mm and .40 so you will want to look into that too. Oh and if you get a .40 look into some aftermarket springs, that should take out some of the snappy-ness that the .40's known for.

I would also look into smith & wesson, the new M & P is a very nice pistol, feels great in the hand, also taurus millenium series pistols are are a good choice and they are a little cheaper then the xd

a lot of good handguns out there these days and u can't really GO WRONG w/any of them, most are just a matter of personal preference. my advice, go to a gun range and test out some diff guns and see which u like better :goodjob:

Why are you wanting to buy one? Is it for home defense, carry, competative shooting events, vehicle carry or just to have one? If you just want a gun it won't matter what you get, you will have a gun.

If you want something for everyday carry you need to purchase a weapon that you are comfortable with on your person in the winter as well as the summer. If you want something for the home you want to make sure you don't have a firearm that will penetrate multiple walls. The load that you shoot will affect this as well.

There is a lot more to think about before you just go and buy a gun. Go to the range rent multiple guns you are interested in. Do your research on the benefits of a .40 s&w over a 9mm or a Glock vs. a Springfield.

i agree, i carry an hs 9mm most of the time (predecessor to the xd) nice gun, i also have an xd45 and I love it. glocks dont feel right to me, especially the small frame

Im not just buying one to buy one. My Whole family collects guns. Id be purchasing one to add to my collection, aswell as home defense/personal security. I dont really want a 9. I know they are more accurate but my aim isnt that bad, and lets face it... if your actually gonna be shooting someone, its not gonna be long range if ur using a pistol.

I just bought my first glock a few months ago, .40 caliber.. very nice, I dont care if its pretty or not I just need it to work when it matters the most. My CCW should be in next month.

Both are nice, but I prefer the Glock myself.

I have a 32C and carry it all the time. I just put a lighter trigger on it a couple of weeks ago.

.40 is a very nice caliber. There are some hot loads available for that too. I am partial to Corbon +P stuff, but you can pick up others too.

i mean dont get me wrong..i love glocks. but the way the XD felt in my hand was more comfortable than the glock. the glocks feel kinda barrel heavy to me...or i could get the new beretta 90-two. I liked it too :) Ive shot all the guns mentioned in this thread besides the XD.. so i guess that will be the deciding factor.

Beretta 90-two:

see that's contradictory to me. u say ur good with ur aim, and we all know when it comes to shooting anything, it's more about WHERE YOU'RE PUTTING THE BULLET vs what caliber. so why not go w/a 9 since it's got less recoil to help the fact that ur already a good shot?

ooooh, the compensated model? how u like that? is the muzzle flash worth the reduced recoil?

now that quite a few ppl have chimed in, i still stand by my initial statement. as u can clearly see, ppl are goin to talk all day all nite about which is their favorite and how someone elses fav "shoots like crap". go with what's right for u. :goodjob:
