I think im getting a 2004 or 2005 jetta GLI what upgrades to make it quicker can I put so without swaping the engine?
GIAC X+ ecu will give you a little more than 30hp and a good bit of torque. Also Evolution Motorsports makes awesome cold air intakes, tectonics tuning makes amazing exhaust. Those are the basic upgrades that most people do. I will post a link that you can find all this stuff at.

04-05 GLI's are 1.8T's. I do believe.

The 2003 GLI came with the 24valve VR6 but the newer ones are all 1.8Ts
Like they said above go with the GIAC X+ and get some form of cone on a stick.
You might wanna also look at some of the different suspension kits. Nothing is hotter than a nice and low dub.
