Okay, so I was faced with having to clean my image sensor. I made a few phone calls to a friend and he reffered me to a company that does in house cleaning. So I called them up, dropped off my D200 body to have the CCD cleaned. Well, 49.99 dollars later, the image sensor is dust and imperfection free! The place is called Camera Repair Japan off of Pleasant Hill Road.

Here is their website! They have a 24 hour turnaround time on cleaning, but they were kind enough to ablidge a same day since I might be shooting the BBall game tommorrow night! Now I will say that most folks can agree that dust on an image sensor comes with the territory, but my situation was pretty extreme. I had some pretty large spots on the sensor. Small specs wont be too when shooting below f/11. So I wouldnt stress over it if you dont see any blobs on your photos.

49.99 doesn't seem too bad... how often would you have to go to get it cleaned?

George, have you heard about the Copperhill method? A lot of people have had great success with it, albeit it is DIY.

why not just get an air bulb and blow it clean for free?

This does not always work when you have real tough spots.

Speak of the devil LOL My kit actually came in the mail today. Forgot I even ordered it. If you want yours cleaned let me know. It comes with everything in the pro kit and the sensor swipe (not shown)

Ive heard alot of people shy away from pec pads.

I use compressed air, works great. yea, not perfect, but neither are my pictures.

And duescheBag, thats a dust bunny from hell.. lol... what did u do, change ur lense in a sand storm haha.. thats rediculas.

When changing lenses keep the body facing down, this reduces the risk of dust settling on the sensor. Also, turn the camera off, i have heard but cant verify that the camera in the on postition can attract dust ever so slightly.

A lot of spots on the sensor sometimes are not dust. They are outside contaminants that have fused to the sensor. Most home remedies dont often get rid of the spots on the images.

Danny, you aren't using canned air are you?

Ive already used one application of the Copper Hills kit, and Im happy to say even at F32, there are 0 spots seen on the sensor :D

George, ya got info on why not to use canned air? If so link me please. I use the little dust ball squeezy thing, with a light dust of canned air if needed. But i havent needed to clean my sensor in a while (i havent been shooting much) :(

I found this on a forum as I was searching best cleaning methods

Compressed air is one of the worse things you can shoot into your DSLR. It usually makes things worse, flinging propellant and dust onto your sensor and into the far reaches of your camera (e.g., pentaprism and focusing screen).

But a rocket blower or hurricane blower would be fine, just by doing it upside down so that the dust falls down.

I cant find it right now, but I read that a Canon guy used compressed air in a can, and held the can wrong and freeze cracked his image sensor filter  Ended up sending it to Canon for repair.
