ok, I know this isnt a spec-v or anything but it's my g/f's car and has turned into a nightmare of epic proportions!!!

2001 sentra xe automatic.

It has had the check engine light on for the past year or so. I knew it was o2 sensors but kept putting it off for money reasons.

well fast forward to a couple days ago and the car starts idling rough and accelerating quirky, etc.

took it to autozone and had the codes run and they came back as P0430 and P0135 so we just broke down and bought ALL 4 o2 sensors. We had to get the universal replacement ones (2 3wire sensors and 2 4wire sensors) because we just could NOT afford the $650+ for the oem replacement ones.

I got them all on last night and reset the codes and went for a drive. Well the problems were still there. Finally after 30-45 minutes of riding around it tossed codes again. went and got them read and it came back as P0135.

dammit!! the o2 sensors have only been on for like 45 minutes!?!?

so I went back home and since that was a bank 1 code I went into the connections on the two pre-cat sensors and replaced the stupid posi-locks with crimp connects thinking maybe I didnt have a good connection inside the posi-locks.

Then I reset the codes again and went to drive. The car ran "better" this time but still had SOME of the idling problem and acceleration problem every now and then. It threw the codes again.

but by now autozone was closed and I'm here at work right now.

I just need advice on what to check next this afternoon??? I'm going to replace the posi-locks on the post-cat sensors first thing this afternoon and reset the codes and go for a drive but if that doesnt work then I need suggestions guys, her not having a car to get to work is really straining us bad!!

considering it was still running rough the second I cranked the car up after putting them in probably means they arent bad before the first run.

i'm just trying to figure out what else it could be. I had a spare boost gauge around so I hooked that up and it was reading 17" hg at idle so I doubt it's a vacuum leak.

MAF, spray it down w/ electrical contact cleaner. Try radio shack. Un plug your battery, your fuel trims have to be out of wack from runnig bad sensors for that long.

p0134 is for the primary o2 sensor, p0430 is for the cat convertor. The p0134 code came first, the p0430 after you ruined your cat from running wack air fuel ratios. I bet if you recheck the codes only the p0430 came back.

already cleaned the MAF out. If the cat is bad then how does the car run?? every time I've had a bad cat, it was clogged and wouldnt let any exhaust through so the engine wouldnt crank at all.

It's just a pre-cat type thing as well. Thinking about punching holes in the two honeycomb passages...

oh and after I replaced the o2 sensors, the only code I got back was the P0135 code...not the P0430 code??

I posted the question up on b15sentra board already, I'll give this other board a shot as well.:goodjob:

cool that site actually put my brain into thinking differently than previously but it's based off the next generation sentra. It DID help me realize how the car can be a 4cyl and have 4 o2 sensors though.

anyway, I'm not a master mechanic and all but I think this is why the car was stuttering...

yep, gutted it last night. the idle problem is still there but the cars acceleration and response problem is definitely cleared up. car at least runs good enough now that I am able to drive it while she drives my car.
