I'm trying to learn how to effectively brake boost without killing my stock clutch, any tips on technique that might help? My first attempts on my evo say that it doesn't make much of a difference w/ the stock turbo but it could be my technique sucks.

i dont see how it would hurt your clutch. not hard...maintain some gas to build boost, but one foot on brake to hold X race start speed.

I find it most effective to pull the emergency brake up as far is it will go at about 60 mph, and turn the wheel rapidly 90 degrees towards the car you are racing. This will help get the boost up REALLY quickly. Just be careful...its a tricky maneuver to master.
Go out and give that a shot and let me know how it works out for you.

1. Lightly apply the brakes.
2. 100% throttle
3. Wait until it builds boost
4. Release brake pedal

That will be $100 or 3 easy payments of $33.33.

What the fuck? Get out of your F&F world, double clutching is a thing of the past when transmissions didnt have syncros.

Brake boosting is like brake-torqueing an automatic except with a manual. You can do it when launching a 5speed car you just have to be really good at juggling your 2 feet around. +1 for automatics where you just hold the brake with one foot and the gas with the other.

Get a Protorque TC and then you'll be talking about a big difference off the line, imagine launching at 4100rpm vs the stock 3300rpm torque converter.

I really don't see how break boosting is any harder in a 5 speed than an auto. The only extra thing you have to do is put the car in the right gear before you hit the brake and gas... If you have trouble putting your car into the correct gear then you shouldn't be driving a manual...

E-Brake method FTW!!! You guys need to try it, my car felt like it had 50 more hp. It made my car do a wheelie!!

Lightspeed's e-brake method works even better if you eat an entire box of D-Con sprayed down with a full can of RAID, it enhances the effect of the mad horsepowerz and makes you feel great. Try it today.

Break boosting is a good way to pick on a faster car if the other driver does not apply it. IMO a real race is the one where you line up and go. I'm sure a lot of the folks here would lose a lot of races if they don't brake boost.
