U.S. has most prisoners in world due to tough laws By James Vicini
2 hours, 26 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Tough sentencing laws, record numbers of drug offenders and high crime rates have contributed to the United States having the largest prison population and the highest rate of incarceration in the world, according to criminal justice experts.

A U.S. Justice Department report released on November 30 showed that a record 7 million people -- or one in every 32 American adults -- were behind bars, on probation or on parole at the end of last year. Of the total, 2.2 million were in prison or jail.

According to the International Center for Prison Studies at King's College in London, more people are behind bars in the United States than in any other country. China ranks second with 1.5 million prisoners, followed by Russia with 870,000.

The U.S. incarceration rate of 737 per 100,000 people in the highest, followed by 611 in Russia and 547 for St. Kitts and Nevis. In contrast, the incarceration rates in many Western industrial nations range around 100 per 100,000 people.

We need to just execute the ones that deserve it instead of letting them sit on death row.

The death of America is preceded by the death of one simple thing: personal responsibility.

I think part of the reason why we are having so much of a problem is because our jail and prison systems are overloaded by people that really dont need to be in there for doing stupid minor things. For example possessing weed or crack. This issue would be fixed\put organized crime out of business if we made certain illegal things legal such as weed and crack. This would also open a new door for taxing. You could make it legal then put a big ass tax on it, and it would still be cheaper than what people are paying dealers now. There would be no arrests\imprisonment for possess these things therefore dramatically decrease the population of our jail\prison systems.

This would also act as a population control agent cas of all the dipshits that would OD on the stuff since it was easy to get to. Darwinism FTW!

Also for the death row people. When they are sentenced to death they get one appeal then they should be taken out back and shot by the firing squad. To lessen the firing squad members guilt for shooting the people they would put one bullet in 5 rifles then put 4 blanks in the others so that they do not know who actually shot the person.

This is my 2 cents on this subject.

that is true..

the prison population has increased in the last decade due to the war on drugs and the mandatory minimums on prison sentences..

and with that said, the overpopulation of these has led prison officials to release hardened criminals
