Anyone got a Shelby GT500 yet?

Well we recently got one in at the job, however I havent been able to convince the owner to run me in the one that we have.

I was wondering if any of you guys on here knew of anyone with a stock 07 Shelby GT Mustang that would be down for a race? I really want to give one a run as I think it should be VERY close from a dig in a 1/4mi. Of course the vehicle needs to be stock, with a few mods that thing is a monster. Just wondering if anyone on here knew of one. Thanks guys.

'cause the shelby is a 4000 pound pig. leave it to ford to come up with a new mustang that costs about $8k more than the last generation, 390 hp cobra, but runs about the same. they should be ashamed. sure you can modify it easily, but for a "500" hp, $40k+ car, one should expect a little more.

When was this? Have to forgive me, dont remember every race I have. But as lightspeed said, the weight makes a significant difference. Personally I think it would be a very good race.

Are you trying to bash supras now? its flattering to hear every domestic fan to compare everything to a supra :jerkit: And you think bluebook values have anything to do with how much a car is actually worth? Wow. Its funny that a nice 1997 supra that costs $41k new is worth more than that now. How much is a 97 cobra worth in relation to its new cost?
A stock supra is much superior to that cobra...in every respect you can imagine... except straight-line acceleration. And keep in mind it came out over 13 years ago. I wonder how all the cars you mention (vette, camaro, etc) compared to it in 1993. If you think a stock non-supercharged mustang, c4/c5 vette, camaro, whatever can outrun a stock supra, you are incorrect.

Who cares if you can mod it up and put a bottle on it and run 9's on slicks. You can do that to a 1987 mustang 5.0 also, and for a lot less money. Some people dont live their life 1/4 mile at a time.

Every test that Ive seen of the cobra has it running high 12's to low 13's on radials. Stock, regular non-Z06 corvettes are running mid 12's. There have been a couple of direct comparison tests between the 2, and the stock c6 is always faster. This is even with the new "launch control" feature that the cobras have...
Its still an overpriced, overweight Ford with wannabe-retro 60's styling.
Shelby needs to hurry up an die already. Hes like 90 or something.

FYI, the fastest stock C6Z06 is 11.2 I believe. There was a guy (Ranger) who put Drag Radials on the back of a 100% stock C6Z06 and ran a 10.8.

The new Shelby typically runs mid 12s as does a stock C5Z06.

I was out this Saturday night, ran a Green turbo M3.

I won't be able to make it out this upcoming saturday I have a company xmas party to go to.

Whoa, way off. Nearly every C6 Z driver (including myself) gets into the 11's stock, and the guys who know what they're doing are running mid 11's. They trap 125 on average, but typically vary between 123 - 127.

I got very low trap speeds in mine at SDR when I was stock, but I now believe I was lifting early (as I think I was lifting early the 2nd time I went there, but didn't figure it out until it was too late). There are also some crazy speeds that pop up on their boards sometimes.

It was a photo finish between the skyline and the mustang. Skyline and vette both jumped, u can clearly see in the video, but the mustang was spinning badly with those bald ass tires.

There are several Gt-500's running 11's with exhaust and tires. The vettes and the 500's are way overlooked especially the new Z-06, it hauls azz with very few mods.

I have a good friend that ran high 12's on street radials in a Mach 1 with bolt ons and about 300 lbs additional weight. Now with small boost he is in the low-mid 11's.

I'm taking my car to my detail guy to get a buff job so I can put it in the garage for the winter, he has informed me he has traded his C5 Z06 in and purchased a C6 Z06. Maybe he'll let me drive it? I drove one from Barrett to Hwy 92 wasn't able to stay in it long because the traffic smooth power band though. since we're on the topic of Vettes why does the young guy with the C6 w/ cam/head/exhaust RED... well why does he run his mouth, and will never race, even when its a gaurranteed win for him? Hydro? Lankhoss? just figured cause all the vettes hang together... or at least park together...

Stock Z's trap 125 all day long, and the good drivers can trap 127. The highest trap speed of a stock Z was 129.5mph by Ranger. He was on drag radials only.

119 - 120 is MUCH slower than the Z can trap, stock. I was only trapping 118 - 120 at SDR, but I think either their calculator was off or I was lifting early. I was only trapping 123 there the other weekend, with my mods.

F' if I know, I never talk to that guy. I saw him a couple of times back when his car was stock....but haven't seen him for MONTHS. I'm hardly ever out at Barrett, though.

You talking 'bout the kid that rolls around Barrett Parkway on weekends and does burnouts / revs the piss outta his 'vette @ Walmart... every freaking weekend? like I said.... the cars are trapping 120s... depends on the track too... Valdosta is so freakin fast, because its RIGHT below sea level and it's completely flat no humps @ 330' like most tracks are... especially with the vettes suspension it can unload itself because of a small "dip" in the track.... this is why you see tracks that have been graded into a hill at the big end... check it out the next time you see drag racing videos on the net, or on TV... tons of tracks have been designed like this... alotta people beleive that the track is slower because of the rise. Yes, it could be under some circumstances. Most of the time, it's for the safety of the drivers so the suspensions compress more toward the big end when the car starts to lift because of high speed/wind pick up.

We told him we would make it worth his time if he thought he could outrun the cobra. We went out on the highway and he tried doing ricer fly by's, along with his buddy in the gto.
