View Full Version : Need help with my dad's car.
hey guys,
my dad just bought a 2001 saturn sl1 today its an auto. we got a really good deal on it, but there is one little tiny problem. evertime you change from park to anything else, it makes a clicking sound from the transmission area and a very small jerk (it doesn't jerk while its moving there are no problems when you get going). also the rpm shoots up by a thousand and takes a while to settle back down, i don't know if this has to do with the first part. but me and my dad have narrowed it down to either the axle (cv joint), or some hydrolic shifter thing that my dad told me about ( i don't know much about automatic trans). but before we go and change the cv joint and that other thing (which requires u to drop the transmission with these saturns) could someone who knows about this tell us what the problem is. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

probably just a motor or tranny mount is bad, we replace those from time to time, if it was a bad cv axle all you have to do is look under the car and look by the wheel and you'd see the cv axle boot busted and grease all over the place, not to mention you'd hear a clicking noise whenever you take a sharp turn. i really doubt the problem is a cv axle. the fluid needs to be cherry red and you need to check it with the car running in Park after you go through all the gears slowly, if your mounts are fine, and your tranny fluid is red, then more than likely you're gonna need a tranny & torque converter.

hey thanks alot man
me and my dad actually put the car on stands today and checked it out, its not the cv axle, its coming from the transmission itself, so it is either the transmission or the mount. but thanks alot man, this is going to be his daily and we just want it in tip top shape.

You'll want to head on over to www.saturnfans.com/forums (http://www.saturnfans.com/forums) and look in the S-Series tech section. Sounds like it might be the reverse slam trick, there's a few writeups on there on how to fix it.
