a lot.
usually around a grand or more

all the shit around it has to come off, the heads gotta come off, then be resurfaced..blah blah blah, then you have to make sure you're timing is right. its a big headache.

it depends on if they need the whole actual HEAD GASKET replaced or just the head COVER gasket. your friend might have been talking about just the head cover gasket, which is a lot cheaper.

replacing the head gasket itself cost AT LEAST a grand, or less of course if you do it yourself, but it's a pretty complicated task.

no offense but what the hell is a head cover gasket? :???: lol... im hoping you mean the valve cover gasket ;) which is true it is a cheap/ easy install but head gaskets are alittle more complicated but usually run about 500$ or so (this of course depending on vehicle type)

RandomGuy

depends on the vehicle type man

if its a honda probably like 50 cents heh

nah but on the real timing chain/ timing belt... turbo or NA... lotsa shit involved but yeah

if its like a VW or a 300zx or something its gonna be fuckin expensive... ($1k labor +)

if its like a civic or a corolla its gonna be cheap ;) (300-600$ labor)

then you got parts, the gasket set = pretty cheap, but if ur head is warped then machine work = like 80 bux, if ur head is cracked you're SOL, slap another 300-500 (honda/corolla) onto the total ;) LOL

no offense taken. im a girl, but im not dumb ;)
head cover gasket/valve cover gasket, same thing. i've heard it referred to as both. i was saying that, maybe that's what his friend was talking about because that is a lot cheaper than a whole new head gasket. :goodjob:

I have been a professional automotive technician for over 6 years and have never heard it called a head cover gasket.

+1...i've been in parts for a while...was a manager at 4 different auto zones and never heard head cover gasket. Trust me though, i've heard some weird shit from people but never head cover gasket.

from my experience it all depends on the vehicle (mainly how crowded the engine bay, cylinder head location and things that have to be removed to get to the head)

yea theres a big difference in a head gasket and a head cover gasket (valve cover gasket)

my friend that i'm on the phone with right now is getting the two confused as well..cause whenever he turns his car on it smokes like a bitch the whole time it runs.what he needs is piston rings, but some one told him he needed a head gasket..which could be true to but he thinks that means jsut taking the valve cover off and replacing that gasket..so taht was what i was saying about people getting those confused lol

honda/acura heads we charge $550 which includes a resurface

Nissan is $650-750 depending on what it is. RB20s are obviously more than SRs
