I was watching the news last night and the PS3 made headlines. The PS3 got released in Japan this week and they are having problems with it already. It wont play over 8,000-10,000 game titles from the PS2 and PS1. Here is the link: http://www.wsbtv.com/technology/10318678/detail.html

I think they are in the future productions, but they aren't going to in these because they don't want to delay the release of the PS3. However, I don't see how they can sell the system considering it says it is compatible with PS2 and PS1 games and it really isnt. They are going to set themselves up with lawsuits for false advertising I would think.

I would never spend that kind of money on a game system anyway. considering in less than 2 years you will be able to get it for half that price.

Sony Playstation 3 Faces Some Problems

Red-faced Sony bosses announced yesterday that their prized PlayStation 3 is a plagued-station.

Just days from the U.S. debut of its mega-hyped video game, legions of fans were peeved that the updated console won't play some old games.

The announcement comes after Sony spent months boasting that first- and second-generation PlayStation titles would be compatible with the latest version set to be released in the United States on Friday.

"We are sorry for the game fans that they cannot play all games. But unfortunately some of these problems could not be avoided," said Sony spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka.

PS3 was released in Japan on Saturday and complaints soon followed.

The popular war game "Final Fantasy XI" is among those that don't work on the new 60gigabyte machine. The glitches are also muffling the background music to the "Tekken 5" combat game. And the virtual gun on "Biohazard" won't fire.

The problems are causing Sony to eat crow after it blasted rival Microsoft's XBox 360 last year for having similar compatibility problems.

"The big deal is they [Sony] claimed it would be fully backwards compatible and now they're running into problems," said Tim Surette, news editor of the San Francisco-based gaming magazine Gamespot. "I'm sure Microsoft is smiling."

About 200 of the 8,000 old games are affected by the glitches in the new $600 system.

Gaming fans already lining up outside the Circuit City in Union Square for PS3's release at 12:01 a.m. Friday said they'll just hold on to their old consoles to play the old games.

Rutgers University student Tamba Peters, 21, was more worried about getting his hands on one of the new PlayStations than coping with its bugs.

"The PS3's going to be my second girlfriend," said Peters, as his girlfriend, Katherine Poff, 20, rolled her eyes.

I don't think I could wait in line for hours just for anything like that. It almost reminds me of people and star wars.lol If you have the patience to wait in line, why not wait longer and let all the glitches happen and get one later. 600 is really steep though......I'd rather paint my car or buy a turbo.

At least Microsoft had enough for alot more ppl, but i do know alot of the 360's where backordered but im not going to have a huge argument about xbox and playstation. Nah, there was no fighting, I was there in line. Basically around 5-9pm on Wednesday people were just walking around the store and forming little groups on how to get the best spots in line, some douchbag made his own list of people that were there and what order he though would be best, and the BestBuy people just told him it wouldn't have any validity when the lines actually opened. So we stood outside from 9-10pm and just waited for them to allow lines, with everyone else. Basically a huge mob formed, BestBuy employees tried to hold people back but the employees were getting shoved around. So all the employees formed a wall by holding hands and stopped people from moving to the line entrance. They ended up calling the police because they couldn't stop people. The manager came out and basically hand selected groups of people to come and get in line, very unfair. Me and 3 friends were all next to each other, and one of my friends got 3rd, another got 20th, I got 70th, and our other friend got 107th. I guess it was lucky we all got one in the end, put the whole way they did this just sucked.

Oh and the highest offer for a spot in line I saw was 1,000 dollars, offered to the first few people in line. A few people offered 500 and 800 but I didn't see anyone take the offers. I would have loved to see someone take the offer and get in line though, because there is no way that would actually work. They had everyones name written down, and you had to show photo I.D to receive a PS3.
