so i was sifting through some videos on the net and come upon a 76 VW bug (beetle) drifting and i liked it looked pretty cool seeing one drift and ive liked older bugs with power since i was a kid and im guessing it would need to be turbo'd but what else would it take to make one driftable ?

I would think it would be difficult to drift with such a short wheelbase. I don't drift though, so take that for what it's worth...:2cents:

you would prolly need to swap in an old school porsche 911 turbo motor into it which is $$ cuz stock those things go 0-60 in about 30 seconds (no lie), but it is rwd and light so it should be able to drift pretty well

Not cheap and not easy. Old beetles may come cheap for the chassis and the stock engine, but to get enough power to drift your going to need some money. It only takes 100+hp to drift, but even a 100hp engine can cost $1000 to build sometimes. Not to mention that they are really hard to keep control of when the rear end breaks loose. They are harder to drift than an MR2. All the weight is in the back of the car, so it will grip well until it finally breaks loose. And when I say break loose, I mean break loose. Its really hard to countersteer for that much oversteer that fast.

That hasn't stopped me from wanting to build a Beetle, but its not going to turn out to be a drift car. I'm actually working on one as a project with my dad.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the front ends of old Beetles like to lift off the ground at higher speeds.

not easy to make drift car but possable ive looked into it alot i always wanted a bug it would not have to be turbo could do it with just built na dual carbs and so on but the main thing you need to be able to drift a bug is tallent i heard it one of the most challenging cars to toss around while drifting

lol well ive seen a beetle with stock engine turbo'd and it bad alot of power but i figured theres got to be a good rearend to put in to make it drift better and the front would probley be changed over to something else so the handling can be a little better also. ive found a few bugs localy for about $500 bucks if i could manage to keep the build under $2k id be ok with it. i had a 240 but sold it and ive got a cressida as a project drifter but im intersted in something that would make ppl say WTF !
on track day lol.
