View Full Version : Do you need a driver's license to register a car in GA?

Long story short, I can't get the DMV on the phone and need to know if I can register a car in GA without a valid driver's license. I have a passport, etc. just not a drivers license.

Anyone know for sure?

Not that i know of...when i registered my caddy 3 weeeks ago, they asked for a GA license to get the tag....

I do beleive u need a georgia license unless u have somekind of goverment ID.

i didnt think you even had to have a license to own a car...i just thought you had to be 18 & have ID of course

You have ot have a Georgia License, you have to have it emissions inspected if the county requires it, and if you are still paying on the vehicle you need to give them the address of the bank that holds the title.

well i believe all he wants is a GA title, the car has a texas title on it right now. His question is do you need a GA drivers license to have the titles switched over. I don't believe he plans on driving the car so it doesn't need a tag, you only need emissions if you want a tag

he said he wants to know if you can REGISTER a car in GA.

the answer is yes, you must have a valid GA driver's license with the address listed on it that you are registering the car at. if the county that the address resides in requires emissions then you would also require a passing emissions test.

i know he said REGISTERING the car, but i know bryant and he doesn't plan on driving the car, he just wants a GA title for the car. Would that require registering the car to just get a title?

register (in other words, getting GA tags) = need current emissions & drivers license.

title switch only = must be 18 & have ID, i think that is all.
