didn't know where exactly to post this...

just bought my volvo on monday...waited until the tank was on E to fill up last night. (gas light came on & everything)
the manual says that my car has a 16 gal tank...but it would only let me pump 10 gallons last night, saying it was full. :???:

is it remotely possible to have a 6 gal reserve tank? what's going on?

no you have at most a 2 gallon reserve. on mine its closer to a 1 gallon reserve. check you owners manual for specifics.

yeah but that doesn't make sense... 10 gallons from empty to full... there are 6 gallons missing somewhere in there. i have no clue.

This is not a Volvo specific problem. Not only could the tank reading be innaccurate but it could also vary with each fill. Much of the architecture for the 1st gen S40 came from a Euro-market Mitsubishi so I especially wouldn't consider this Volvo-related.
