yeah im thinking it was taken from one of the planes that NASA has to monitor airspace around it. That picture is still within the earths atmosphere, Its high up, but the space station crew cant see the smokle even on the ground from lift off. I think a pilot took the pic has he was flying by the Kennedy Space Center to patrol airspace.
